Chapter 13|Finnick and Peeta's warning

Everyone was in command talking about the footage from 12 when the tv turned on to show Peeta and Finnick "Their worse..." Katniss covered her mouth with her hand Thalia grabs her hand to try give her an anchor "Peeta, Finnick what do you have to say about the savage attacks" Ceaser asked "they were a totally inhuman act and-" he was cut off by footage of Thalia and Katniss in 12 with the song they sung at the lake in the background "He did it! He got in" When the footage cuts out both boys are distracted by the image "Katniss?" Peeta furrowed his brow "K-kitten?" Finnick had a tear rolling down his cheek "Peeta please continue" Ceaser said he nodded trying to process what he just saw "The attacks on the dam were an inhuman act that should never had happened Beetee puts the clip back up "Katniss Thalia are you there" Thalia could see the pain and suffering in Peeta's eyes "I'm here Peeta" she walked closer to the screen "Thalia my love is that you" Thalia turns away from the tv trying to hold back tears "do you have any parting thoughts for the once sweet Katniss and Thalia" Ceaser asked "Katniss...how do you think this will end? What will be left? No one is safe. Not here in the Capitol. Not in the districts. And you....in 13 Katniss their coming you'll all be dead by morning" 4 peacekeepers dragged Peeta and Finnick of as the Capitol's seal appeared on the screen "Get everyone underground into the bunkers" Coin called sounding an alarm Thalia sprinted to her room where Lila lay sleeping "Lila, Lila come on darling we need to leave" Thalia grabbed her daughter and ran down the stairs on her way down she heard Prim shouting Thalia handed Lila to a man next to her and told him to give her to Katniss while she dashed back up the stairs drenched from the rain "Prim!" She yelled "Thalia help my leg it's stuck" Thalia lifted the rock off her ankle "can you walk" Prim nodded and Thalia grabbed her hand pulling her down the stairs "hanger bay doors will close in 60 seconds" a voice echoed through the empty halls of 13 "come on Prim" Thalia was dragging the girl with her "Prim!" Katniss called "she's with me don't worry" Katniss pulled Prim into a hug "there no time we got to go" the 3 managed to slide through the doors before they closed "Prim what were you thinking you could've gotten yourself killed" she yelled hugging her sister "I couldn't leave him to die I wouldn't be able to live with myself" Mrs Everdeen hugged Thalia "Thank you for helping her" Thalia hugged her back "I couldn't leave her" Thalia let go as Lila flung herself into her mother's arms "I'm scared momma" Thalia picked up the small girl and sat on an empty bed rocking her "it'll be okay I promise" she was stroking the girls chocolate brown hair singing to her just as she fell asleep Katniss walked over to them "mind if I sit?" Thalia moved her legs so she could sit at the end of the bed "Their using Finnick against you I didn't realise until I was playing with the stupid cat" Thalia sighed "it should have been me he didn't deserve this" a large bang sounded above them which caused Lila to wake up screaming "Lila sweetie I'm here it's alright your safe" she nodded falling back to sleep '"she loves you like an actual mother" Katniss whispered looking at the small girl in Thalia's arms "I love her like a daughter" Thalia smiled.

As everyone was being let out the bunker Katniss made her way to command and Thalia took Lila back to their room and tucked her in (in this time Katniss went to do the propo and found the roses if anyone's confused why it's not there) Thalia walked over to command and coin approached her "Miss Abernathy we're going to get the victors out we believe their in the tribute centre we asked Miss Everdeen to tell panem that we survived an attack from the Capitol but there was a unwelcome...gift for her so we want you to do it and we want you to talk about what Snow did to you" Thalia agreed and followed Cressida and her crew up above to the surface "alright Thalia you ready all you need to do is keep talking ready ACTION" Cressida yelled "This is Thalia Abernathy Victor of the 70th hunger games coming to you alive and well in district 13 where we just survived an attack from the Capitol I'm not here to bring you recent news I'm here to tell you what happened to me" Thalia looked at cressida who nodded "President Snow used to sell me, or my body at least" Thalia says in a flat tone "I wasn't the only one. If a Victor was considered desirable the president gives them as a reward or allows people to buy them for an exorbitant amount of money. If you refuse, he kills the people you love so you do it I learned that the hard way" Cressida gives her a sorrowful look but she continues "I wasn't the only one but I was the most popular" she says "and perhaps the most defenceless because the people i loved were defenceless. To make themselves feel better my patrons would make presents or money or jewellery but I found a much more valuable for of payment secrets" Thalia looked at the screen a blank expression on her face "secrets" she repeated "and this is where you want to stay tuned President snow because most if them were about you but let's begin with some of the others" she started to blurt out every secret she knew, Drunken secrets whispered over damp pillow cases in the dead of night Thalia was treated like an object someone bought and sold, a district slave. A beautiful one, defiantly but in reality harmless "And now onto our good president Cornelius Snow" Thalia says "Such a young man when he rose to power. Such a clever one to keep it. How, you must ask yourself, did he do it? One word that's all you need to know. Poison" Thalia goes on about how his most trusted allies all dropped dead at a feast or slowly declining into the shadows over a period of months blamed on viruses and overlooked weaknesses and how Snow drank from the poisoned cup himself to avoid suspicion but antidotes don't always work They say he wears the roses that seek of perfume to cover the scent of blood from sores in his mouth that will never heal "poison the perfect weapon for a snake" she hissed "CUT" Cressida yelled and nodded to Thalia to thank her she simply smiled back but she could feel the tears pricking the corners of her eyes as she made her way back to command where Haymitch was crying silently at his nieces story and Katniss was staring into space. With the girls job done all there was to do was wait

Thalia sat in a room with Katniss tapping her leg both of them sat in silence when the door clicked open "Their back" Haymitch said moving out the way so the girls could get down to the hospital, Thalia was first up she sprinted to the med bay pushing past crowds of people she stopped in the door way searching the room when her eyes landed on messy dirty blonde hair "FINNICK" she yelled his head snapped up at the sound of her voice "Thalia?" He yanked his arm from the nurse and ran towards her voice she did the same and she ran into his open arms "Finnick your okay" she grabbed his face kissing him deeply "I'm okay now your here" their foreheads rested against one another "don't ever leave me again" Thalia kissed him again burying her face into the crook of neck his arms tightened around her waist as a small hand gripped her jacket "Lila darling your supposed to be asleep" Thalia picked the small girl up and placed her on her hip "I couldn't sleep momma Prim said you were here" Lila yawned and cuddled up into Thalia's chest "ill take her back to bed" Prim said taking Lila out of Thalia's grip "did she call you mum?" Finnick asked "long story" she said leading Finnick back to his bed so she could look at his wounds "I got time" she chuckled besides being tortured for weeks he still hasn't lost his sence of humour she sat him down and explained how close they both became after Thalia returned from her games and how Snow bombed district 3 and they rescued her and she lost her family then she told him that she adopted the small girl and he smiled at how kind she had become and not the cold girl he met in the games. She was tending to the wounds on his arm inserting an I.V. into his arm "I didn't know you were a doctor" he laughed "I needed something to keep my mind of you so I started getting lessons of Prim and Mrs Everdeen" he nodded and watched her work, when she had finished she cuddled up to him not realising how much the missed him they both fell asleep cuddled up to each other for the first time in months and Thalia nor Finnick had nightmares only peaceful sleep and neither of them wanted it any other way.
