Chapter 20 - Stephanie
I'm really looking forward to meeting up with Lee today. I think I can learn a lot from him. I mean he has been through a lot and this experience might help me get over my image.
One thing that has been on my mind all night is the thought of Lee being executed and the fact that it is tomorrow. I can't let that happen. I have been thinking of a plan all night and I have finally, after much thought, created myself an idea that just might help him.
I got up early and since Mrs Potter wakes us up at 8, I read my vampire book until then. I was getting to an exciting bit when Mrs interrupted. The human girlfriend just found out her boyfriend was a vampire and she was gracefully running for her life. You know the usual vampire clique. Anyway, I thinking about my life and tried to imagine myself in a situation like that. Not the running away from a vampire part, the part when she was running and trying to escape, but she has nowhere to run to. I am kind of like that now. I don't have my friends back home and my parents are so far away, it's like I'm lost in a different world sometimes. But isn't life better like that at times?
"Come on Stephanie, you need to hurry up otherwise you would miss breakfast." Mrs called through the dark circle hole in the door, knocking on it too. She sounded like she was trying to break it down.
"Okay!" I called back and got out of my bed. The mattress was all over the place, so when I got up the springs end up going back on themselves. It is a weird sight to see.
It is really difficult to pick out an item of clothing to wear in the morning. Anything nice is likely to be messed up and anything not as fashionable will be considered low and not living up to standards.
Breakfast was quieter than usual today, I don't why but everyone nibbled on their burnt toast slower and avoided eye contact with anyone else. Someone across the table was crying and literally messing themselves because of the pressure of staying here. It was officially the worst by a mile. Even Mrs Potter was quiet (for a change) it actually shocked me.
"Mrs, is everything okay?" I asked her and placed my half eaten toast slice on my plate.
"Not really, I need to talk to you in your room after breakfast. It is quite urgent as lives are at stake here." With that, she continued eating and staring off into space. What did she mean by lives are at stake? Like I said before: Officially the worst.
A couple of minutes had past and gradually everyone left their sits to go and explore the factory properly for a second time. I trailed off to my room; I could scene Mrs following me. When I arrived in my room, I left the door open and she closed it slowly behind her.
"Is this going to take long Mrs, as I need to explore the factory some more,"
"That's what I came to talk to you about. You are not allowed to mingle with the workers. They need to be doing their jobs and not have any distractions!" Mrs shouted. She probably found out about Lee. How did she find out? How am I going to reply to this? Guess I have to use my 'super power' of lying again.
"I haven't Mrs though, I have only been in the main factory evaluating the use of the machines. I have been looking at sustainability and whether the machines are effecting the overall environment of the local towns and villages. You can't stop me completing my scientific goals can you?" That sounded smart enough didn't it?
"I'm impressed that you are researching that. I am looking forward to listening to your speech about that now," I am screwed I thought to myself. "But that isn't what I am here to talk about, do you know a boy called Lee?"
"I don't think so, why?" I lied, but I didn't know what else to say.
"Well, I have had a complaint from the boss of this factory. She has found out that this boy has been talking to one of us. You name was one of the two names mentioned, however he said it wasn't you. If I find put it was you, you are in serious trouble, but since he said it wasn't you you aren't in trouble yet."
