written from Kay's perspective
I walked into school that morning, starting by going to my locker. I put away the books I didn't need for my morning classes, keeping the ones I did in my backpack, along with the book I was currently reading. 'To Kill a Mockingbird', my favorite book ever. I had already read it like twelve times, but I would never get tired of it. I looked over to the giant clock that was on the wall, and noticed I had a good little while before my first period class and so I decided to go to the library. I closed and locked my locker, then zipped up my backpack, slinging it onto my back, before walking through the halls to the library.
On my way to the library, I saw Eli at his locker, so I decided I would go over and talk to him, maybe see if he wanted to come to the library with me. I walked up beside him, except I was on the side that his locker door opened to, so I was hidden by the door and he couldn't see me. I was going to wait until he shut his locker door to scare him, but after nearly a minute of waiting I didn't want to wait any longer, so I knocked onto his locker door, where I was stood behind.
"Hey Eli!" I said as I knocked. He poked his head around the door and smiled at me.
"Hey Kay, I wasn't expecting to see you." He said as he finished whatever he had been doing in his locker. He shut his locker door, locking it and putting his backpack on, the same as I had. He kept ahold of his backpack straps, as we continued to talk, and I leaned up against the lockers, casually.
"Why were you not expecting to see me?" I asked him curiously. Did he just expect me not to be at school today?
"I just figured you would be out trying to make new friends this morning, and I would only see you once lunch came if you hadn't found any new friends." He told me. Kind of stung a little bit, that he expected me to go make new friends even though I've already made the friends I wanted. It hurt to know that he didn't have enough confidence to see that I liked having the three of them as friends. Especially him.
"I don't need new friends silly. I have Miguel, Demetri, and you." I told him, poking my finger into his chest as I said 'you'. He blushed, and I smiled at him. "So, I was just about to go to the library, if you wanted to join me?" I asked him.
"Oh. Okay, yeah!" He said, and it sounded like he might have been a little excited to be going somewhere with me. I hoped anyway. Why was I hoping that? Stop it Kay, you can't have a crush on him yet, you don't know him well enough!
Eli and I walked to the library, sitting at a table that was next to shelves of books, sort of in the middle of the library. We had just sat down when Eli's phone made a buzzing noise. I didn't want to seem nosy, so I just got out my work from yesterday in first period, to go over it.
"Demetri just texted to ask where I was, so I told him we were in here. Oh, and he said Miguel was with him too." Eli told me, setting his phone down and getting his books out, the same as I had. I guess we were going to be doing like a studying session, instead of talking. I would have rather talked, but I guess I brought this upon myself by getting my books out first.
"Okay." I told him, not wanting to sound overly interested, as if I cared a lot about who had texted him, but also not under interested so that he thought I didn't care. Holy crap, I was trying way too hard here. I just needed to calm down, and not stress out about Eli. Without realizing, I had started clicking my pen quite aggressively.
"Are you okay?" Eli asked me.
"Yeah, why?" I asked back.
"It's just your pen might stop working if you keep clicking it like that for much longer." He said with a tad look of sympathy.
