The goblins Shadow (volume 1 of The Demon's Journey)

The guild meeting

After the bandit attack, Jack was promoted twice even though they doubted that he stopped all of the bandits.

Goblin slayer was gathering a goblin quest when he was stopped by Guild girl.

"Goblin Slayer! I need your help!" Asked the Guild girl "goblins?" Asked Goblin slayer. "No, but I need your help with another promotion meeting." Goblin slayer agreed and went upstairs for the meeting.

Jack sat outside the room on a cold, uncomfortable bench. Jack knew why he was there, they most likely going to question him about how he was able to complete adventurers that required a full party to complete.

Jack didn't care, If they wanted to know how he was able to, he would tell them. He smiled to himself, It's not like they could stop him anyway.

As Jack was sitting outside, he heard his name being called, telling him that they were ready. Jack got up off the bench, stretched, and walked inside the room.

As Jack walked in he saw Goblin slayer sitting to the left, He nodded towards Jack, sitting at the desk was the Guild girl he saw at the reception desk. To the right, there was a girl that he didn't know but was holding some sort of cross.

Jack sat down on the sofa in front of them leaning back into it, and crossing his arms. Guild girl spoke. "Hello, Jack, I think you know why we called you here today." Jack nodded. "You arrived here a few weeks ago, registered with the adventurers guild, and proceeded to complete so many quests that you ranked up three times."

"I would like to know how that's possible," said Guild girl. "Did you pay other adventurers to complete the quests? Or did you just lie and say that you completed them?" asked Guild girl.

Jack took a moment to inhale and said. "I never paid any adventurers to do my quests, nor did I lie about doing them," said Jack.

"You must be lying," said Guild girl looking towards the Investigator. She had a stunned look on her face. "He isn't lying, in fact, everything he has said was truthful," she said. Guild Girl was shocked by this. "How is this possible then?" Asked her.

Jack looked towards goblin slayer, "should I show them?" Asked Jack. "It is your choice." Jack sighed. Guild girl leaned forward she was about to learn the secret behind this mysterious adventurer. 

Jack stood up, and the darkness took over. He tilted his head back as the power swept over him. It started with his legs, the tendrils swirled up, changing every inch of skin on his body. He inhaled as Jack and exhaled as Shadow.

They were both stunned, except for Goblin Slayer. Shadow stood half a foot taller, had a sword sheathed on his hip, Guild girl noticed he was more muscular than Jack. 

"Well, now you know I guess." Said Shadow, sitting back down, folding one leg over the other.
Guild girl was stunned she had so many questions, should she promote him immediately or risk angering him. She tried to start talking but couldn't find her voice. She realized she was terrified.
The inspector spoke up terror lacing her every word. "D-Do you have any evil intentions here?" Shadow slowly turned his head, it was really unnerving watching him act so human-like.

"I have absolutely no evil intentions while I'm here." Said Shadow. "In fact, I don't even though why I'm here," Shadow said rubbing the back of his neck. The inspector tried to read him but found that she couldn't. "And that little toy you have there won't work on me." Said Shadow, pointing at the cross she was holding.

After half an hour of questions from each person, "So, anyway what are your other questions do you have?" Shadow asked Guild girl. Guild stopped and re-gathered herself. " I-I don't think I have any more questions, now that you've revealed all of the answers." She said looking at her papers. 

"But, how will we explain this to the rest of the guild, they were looking for an answer. In fact, the main reason you are here was that they had complaints." Shadow frowned at this, if he had a mouth currently he would have. 

"I think the best course of action is to tell them," said Guild Girl, Standing up and striding for the door. "Whoa, whoa, are you sure this is a good idea?" said Shadow stopping Guild girl. "She stopped and exhaled. 

"I think this is, If we don't even more questions will arise, if we do the questions and accusations will surely stop." Guild girl said, turning to face Shadow. Shadow sighed, Got up, and shifted back into Jack before following her out the door. 

Guild Girl stood right next to the front desk and rang a bell to get everyone's attention, next to her stood Jack with his hands behind his back. Guild girl addressed the entire crowd, "Now I know that you have your questions about this man," she gestured to Jack. "Some more than most," she said looking at Spearman. 

"Now I think it will be better if he explained this himself," said Guild girl stepping back. Jack took a step forward silencing everyone. "I know you have your questions, and believe me so do I, but they will all be answered one way or another." 

Jack, released his arms and Shadow took over yet again. He began to morph, some gasped at this sight they had never seen a shapeshifter before, then their curiosity turned to terror when they saw what he was turning into. 

As the process finished, they were all quiet at first, then the attack happened.

Shadow expected that he would have a less than friendly reception, but he didn't expect a fireball to launch at him. He quickly summoned a shield and blocked the fireball, stopping the flames dead in their tracks.

"As you can see I am not an Illusion,"  Shadow said turning and walking towards the adventurer board. Shadow looked at the board for his next quest when he felt a hand on his shoulder. He turned around to face Spearman. "Believe it or not, your not the only mysterious character to enter this guild." Shadow saw two other people walk up behind him.

"But we would like to duel to test your capabilities." finished Female knight, she and Heavy warrior stood behind Spearman.

Shadow chuckled, "All right, let's do this."
