It's been a week and still no abnormal activities or any word on the Tessaract, albeit Thor and Loki stayed in touch. School was to reopen on Monday and we'd all be going back, but my father was very keen on not letting me go since the incident.
Luckily my mother talked some sense into him, telling him he was being irrational. It took him a few days but he eventually recovered and figured it would be better if there were two superheroes at Midtown, in case something happened.
I spent most of my time in my room, the training arena or with my father and Banner in the lab. My mother had her hands full with council meetings and press conferences all relating to the threat upon New York. The citizens were in a panic about what happened, and when in a panic, people weren't in their right minds which usually caused incontrovertible chaos.
I haven't heard from Peter or anyone else since I've last seen them. Natasha and Clint weren't back from their mission yet and the rest of the Avengers started thinking the worst, that's why we were gathered in the council room. Nick Fury, the director of S.H.I.E.L.D, and my father were standing at the head of the table, exchanging hushed words, while the rest of us were waiting for them to finish up their conversation.
"It's been over a week and neither Natasha nor Clint have reported back to us. Fury thinks they are being hold captive by the inhabitants and he needs four of my strongest superheroes to go to Afghanistan and rescue them."
The people around the table exchanged knowing looks before directing their attention back on my father and Nick Fury as they continued.
"Thor and Loki are in Asgard, Banner is helping me in the lab. Bucky and Rhodey are in Alaska on another misson. Dr Strange is, well no one knows, and seeing as Nat and Clint are kidnapped, it only leaves the four of you."
The four of us consisted of Steve, Wanda, Peter and me. I knew my father was against the idea of sending me on a mission, I could see it in his eyes, but he knew he had no choice. If he wanted to stay here and locate a power source with Bruce, he had to send me on the mission.
"You'll leave on the Queen Jet tonight. Right, you're dismissed." My father straightened himself and exited the council room with Fury.
We, however, remained seated. You could hear a pin drop in the room. Steve was leaning back in his chair, his arms crossed over his chest, and his oceanic pools were fixed upon the table. Wanda was shifting nervously in her seat. Peter caught my gaze as I looked around the table at the Avengers.
I moved my gaze to Steve's shifting figure as he rose from the chair. I tilted my head up to look at him as he towered above me. He gave me a lopsided smile before leaving, Wanda close on his heels, leaving me and Peter.
"Is this your first mission too?"
"Yeah." Peter nodded.
"What are you going to tell your Aunt May? My father told me she doesn't know you're Spiderman."
"She'd freak out if she found out I was constantly putting myself in danger. She thinks I have an internship with Mr Stark. I'll just tell her he's taking me to one of his press conferences. She trusts him and knows I'm safe with him, since he's Iron Man."
I nodded in understanding and uncrossed my arms, pushing myself up from the chair. Peter followed my every movement. I crossed the room and stopped abruptly in the doorway. Peter had also stood up from the chair and walked towards the doors.
"I'll see you tonight?" Peter smiled.
"Yes," I returned the smile before pulling him into a hug, "to our first mission."
