On my way home from my brothers, trying to remember this event he refused to tell me about, Reki almost knocked me off my feet for the third time. He jumped in front of me out of absolute nowhere, and my heart rate sky rocketed so high I thought it would come out of my throat. I stumbled off my board and stumbled right into him, coughing slightly as he caught me. My face was red and I stood straight, gripping onto his arms, taking deep breaths as my mind raced.

"Are- you- are you crazy?!" I wheezed, looking up at him as he blinked.

Then, he grinned like a fool, giggling, "Yeah, I guess maybe I am a little bit! You didn't reply when I called out to you, so I decided to take drastic measures~!"

I ducked my head, sighing heavily, before I finally let go of his arms, "I'm pretty sure you just took off a year from my life span."

He laughed, even though I was pretty serious when I said that. Langa handed me my board and I thanked him with a wavering smile, which fell quickly when I saw Miya.

"What's he doing here?" I asked.

He rolled his eyes, "I'm here to help this idiot have a chance against Adam." He replied himself, and I took a breath.

"Okay then." I turned back to Reki, "Where are you headed, then?"

"We want to go to Crazy Rock!" Reki replied, shoving his thumb in some random direction, "Wanna come with?"

I shrugged, "Sure. But it's kinda far from here. Are you walking?"

"Well... it's not like we have an alternative." Langa began as we began walking to our supposed destination.

And then, like the gods heard our indirect prayers, a light shined through the darkness.

"Hey look," I pointed, "Isn't that Shadow's car?"

Reki's eyes glowed, "Oh my gosh!"

My mouth popped open as I felt an odd sense of deja vu, realizing how Reki took my words seriously as he has several times before... but even if we were literally breaking into Shadow's car and we all knew it technically was a bad idea, we all followed Reki without much question.

And low and behold, the doors were unlocked.

Miya demanded the passenger seat and stepped in before anyone could refuse, and I somehow ended up in the middle seat pressed in between Langa and Reki. Our shoulders were pressed together and our legs were pressed together and I had to put all my efforts into not freaking out. For a while, it was quiet. I checked my phone, actually, it had only been a minute.

I swallowed, wondering what to do to fix this awkward silence, but Miya nor Langa seemed to mind. I glanced at Reki and he was moving his lips around weirdly, seemingly extremely bored.

"Shouldn't he be off by now?" He finally asked.

"Well, maybe he stays later for overtime and a good reputation." I shrugged, knowing my brother used to do the same.

"Definitely for the overtime." Langa claimed, making me glance at him weirdly. Of course, here rises once again Langa's obsession with work and money.

"He should be out soon." I began again, "Maybe give it five minutes."

Reki sighed, "Five minutes is so long to be stuck doing nothing!" He paused, then glanced at the phone in my hand, "Got any games on your phone?"

"Shut up you imbeciles! He's coming."

We silenced, watching Shadow sit in his car and get all situated, before yelling out. Reki quickly leaned forward with his hands together but Shadow just kept yelling, stuttering useless shit like "W-who's this Sh-shadow you speak of???". I rolled my eyes and Miya glanced at him,

"It's kind of obvious."

"We're begging you!!" Reki insisted,

"Like I care!"

"Please!" Reki put his hands together and Langa and I followed, repeating after him.

"I'll tell that woman." Miya dared, and I sweat dropped as he finally sped off.

-

"You gotta learn this if you want him to pull away at the corner." Miya explained.

I was smiling slightly, but I oddly felt tears gathering at the corners of my eyes. Reki was staring out into space and Shadow was lost for words. Langa, of course, looked like he was in his fantasy world. We all glanced at Reki, who quickly cleared his throat and turned on his 'cool' act,

"Okay! So it's a railslide, right?" He gripped on to his board, stomping up the hill, "Watch this."

He managed to get his board in place, but he fell almost immediately. Even still, he was grinning when he did it, he was telling himself he could do it, even after he failed and rolled into a bush and came out dirty screaming "one more time!".

I placed a hand on my hip as he walked up the hill again. I smiled, and figured he'd learn in no time. He had the passion and drive for it, after all. I was never one for crazy tricks, but one thing I could manage was skating at fast speeds. I knew how to move my body to keep my balance, and had gone down dangerous high way hills around mountains with my brother before on summer trips with my family. Speed never scared me.

But, what my brother mentioned earlier still irks me. What was it that happened? What part of skating could I possibly be afraid of that I didn't realize before?

-

After Reki's fourth fail, Shadow walked off to nap in his car. I sat on my board with Langa standing beside me, watching carefully. Miya stood a bit in front and kept instructing Reki. I was surprised he wasn't getting too frustrated, especially since a kid almost five years younger than him was coaching him.

"Your upper body is plunging in too far. You have to be more aware of your balance." He stated.

"I get it! One more time." He went to stand, then halted, looking around, "Ah- my board?"

Langa stepped up, "I'll go get it, it probably rolled off."

"Want some water?" I asked, holding out the bottle that I pulled out of my bag, Langa skated off and Miya stood silently watching Langa as Reki walked up to me.

"Thanks." He muttered, taking the bottle, I watched him throw his head back and chug as much as he could.

I swallowed, watching his throat move, and just studying his neck. Ah, maybe I really was obvious. I moved my eyes down from his face and neck and noticed his sweater was hiking up. And, from my position, I could see...

I quickly moved my head down to his shoes instead. No. Nope. Not me doing that, not today, perverted part of me, not today. Respect, we must respect. If I succeeded in getting Reki to fall in love with me, then maybe one day he'll show me, and that'll be much better than attempting to sneak peak.

"You tired?" Reki asked, gasping as he wiped his mouth.

I took the water back from him, the bottle was almost empty now, "No, I'm okay."

He nodded, kneeling down in front of me, "This trick is hard! But it'll be epic once I land it."

"I'm sure it won't take you long, then, you can show off to everyone." I smiled lightly and he returned it.

"You know, Yuri, I'm glad I have you and Langa now. Before this, I've been skating on my own for so long. It's like you said - you finally have skating friends!"

My eyes widened slightly, "Didn't you always have a big group of friends, Reki?"

He hummed, "Not really. Not like this. You, Langa, even Miya and even Shadow!" He laughed lightly, "It rocks hanging out with you guys."

I took in his words, my insides felt a little bit like pop rocks but it wasn't overbearing. I didn't feel the need to hide my face, but I did have to hold back the urge to hug him.

He suddenly stood, "Come on, let's go after Langa!"

"Yeah!"
