Chapter nine: A Dark Path

(Lee's POV)

I woke up only to find Carley by my side. I had this pain in my shoulder, but I could handle it.

"What happened?" I asked while getting up.

"You saved me." Carley said while wrapping her arms around me.

"I did? I don't remember much."

"Lilly was about to shoot me when you jumped in front of me and took the bullet. You passed out but you should be fine. Couldn't find the bullet, must've went straight through." As Carley was telling me what happened, I could only think about what the hell happened to Lilly.

"What happened to Lilly?" I asked.

"Well, since you were out cold. Kenny made the decision to leave her behind." As Carley said that, I felt sick to my stomach.

Carley then kissed me on the lips and said: "Thank you, Lee."

I smiled.

"Ew, you two remind me of my parents." Clementine remarked.

Carley and I both chuckled.

"Lee? A word, please." Katjaa said from up front.

There was something different about her voice this time. It sounded like she was upset.

"Let me handle this." I said as getting up.

I made my up to the front of the RV.

"What's up?" I asked.

There was silence for a while.

Katjaa pulled up Duck's shirt, only to reveal that he had been bitten.

"What the fuck..?"

"Happened during the raid." Kenny didn't even look at me when he said that. Just focused on the task at hand, driving.

"We're going to keep an eye on him and see what we can do from a medical perspective." Katjaa said with a crack in her voice.

"Guys.."

"What else is there to do?" Katjaa looked at me.

"We keep the same plan." Kenny said.

I went back to where Clementine and Carley were at.

I sat down with Clementine and said "Duck is bitten."

"Huh?"

"Happened during the raid."

"Oh, I don't feel good."

"What about Lilly?"

"Gone. But won't join our group again."

Clementine hugged me.

And then she said "I'm scared, Lee."

"What can I tell you to make it better?"

"That you won't leave me."

"Oh, I wouldn't do that. I promise.
