When I got to the school it was an interesting sight, there were new junior high kids who looked scared out of their whits as the seniors who were mostly over six foot walk past. Then there were the freshmen boys who were all trying to impress the freshmen girls, but the girls, were only interested in senior boys, who were only interested in senior girls, and senior girls were only interested in college guys. A brutal cycle that is high school.
'Yo! Ash, how was your summer buddy?' I looked up out of my own little world and saw Jaxon, the king of the school who was actually not that mean, to me anyway. I wasn't a kid that got picked on, and even though I was smart people didn't make me do their homework. It could be because of how pretty everyone seemed to think I was. I had my mum's face, with big doe eyes, my face was nice and symmetrical, I had my dad's black hair and his strong jaw though but even with so much of my dad when someone knew my mum they always said I looked more like her.
'Ash? You in there buddy?' I shook my head and focused on Jaxon and the football troup and groupies that were standing in front of me.
'Yes, sorry.'
'You have a good break?' He asked as we all walked inside and headed for the administration to get our schedules.
'Yes, thank you.' I said quietly and he smiled before going on to talk about how he and his family went off to some place in texas to see family members who owned a ranch. I collected my schedule and as I thought I didn't have a lot of classes. I had homeroom first thing in the morning ever day, then I have advanced Chem after lunch on a Monday, advanced Calculas second on a Tuesday and PE after lunch, Wednesday is Home Ec and advanced history before lunch. Thursday is art after lunch and Friday I just had PE and advanced Triganomarty. The group split up and headed for their separate homerooms. Jaxon and Vanessa coming with me to Mr. Tuee's class. We took the three back seats in the class, one more left by my left near the window. The class began and just as Mr Tuee was about to start the door opened and someone walked in, a hoodie pulled up and they went to the teacher, a few hushed words were expressed and the guy went to walk away but Mr T stopped him and he stood there at the front of the class.
'It seems we have a new student so please listen up as he introduces himself. Hood off please.' Mr T stopped and waited until the guy pulled his hood back and revealed Lincoln's scarred face. A few girls in the front row gasped and Lincoln clicked his tongue angrily looking away. I swallowed as I looked at him, I really wanted him to look at me but he just continued to glare at the floor.
'My name is Lincoln, I used to live here but we moved away when I was younger. I don't like talking about my eyes so please don't ask, that's the only time I'm going to ask nicely.' He sounded like there was some serious strain on his voice like he was fighting back so much anger. It's understandable, even though I was always the pretty one growing up he was always handsome on his own.
'Thank you Lincoln, please go and take a seat, there's one up the back.' He looked up and our eyes connected before he glared at me for a moment before pulling his hoodie up and stalking back to sit at the table beside mine. There were whispers all through the class about Lincoln, mostly about his eyes but all I wanted was for him to look at me.
The bell rang and Lincoln tore out of the class room, Jaxon waited for me and we headed out together, Vanessa waiting as well but only because of Jaxon, she didn't speak to me much and when she did it didn't sound like she was trying to be friendly.
'You're going to come out of your hidey hole for lunch today right?' I looked up at him and he grinned. 'Don't make me come and find you like last year.' Ever since the fifth grade when I met Jaxon he's always trying to get me to come out with him and his friends and talk more. I'll occasionally hang out with his friends but only if it's the guys, they talk to me normally and tend not to bring up my looks, but the girls either don't talk to me, bring up how I look, or talk to me so much that I get nervous and want to leave.
