Me: I think it's best that we call it quits. You're gonna be such a big star and I know that with that lifestyle there's gonna be more attention. You know I have trouble with that kinda stuff. I'm sorry but I'm thinking it will be so much better this way. I will always love you. Zoe.

Pete had been my first love. That awkward boy I had met one of the many 9/11 memorial services I had to attend. My dad was also a part of ladder 118 and passed away that same fateful day as Pete's. We grew with each other, dealt with grief much less the same way and in doing so, found love with each other as we got older.
I recall the days of him sharing his hopes and aspirations of becoming a stand-up comedian. He was a hilarious guy, reserved, but oh so funny. We shared war stories about school, meet each others friends and family and when we finished school, we did our best to spend as much time together as we could.
I had seen Pete at his worst. I watched him become a stereotypical pothead before my eyes, I watched him fall on desperate times with his depression, his mental illnesses. The works. And I watched his comical career start blossoming as well and I couldn't help but be filled with pride. He was a star in the making.
I just wanted to go to culinary school to become a pastry chef.
We tried keeping in touch but the more Pete became famous and the more I put into my studies, the further we drifted apart until we decided it was time to call it quits.

"Looks like lover-boy Pete is back on the market"
I glanced up from icing our birthday cake to see her lounging on our living room couch, flipping through another one of her magazine purchases. You could ask her about anything involving celebrity gossip and she was all about that topic.
Lisa had moved with me to New York city and was enrolled at the Fashion Institute of Technology. We had managed to save up enough money to get a fairly decent sized three bedroom apartment so life was good for the both of us.
"You're always scoping him out for me aren't you" I laughed but my smile fell when she began texting feverishly on her phone after that comment. Over the past year I had noticed Lisa commenting more and more on what Pete Davidson was up to.
Fashion shows, Saturday Night Live shows, dating history. I knew all about them secondhand coming from Lisa's bible series...gossip magazines.
I put some final rosettes on the top of our cake and stood up to look at my work. I got off with seeing my OCD with cake decorating payoff. I loved symmetry.
"That is too good to eat now" Lisa grinned as she hugged me from behind, resting her chin on my shoulder. "But more importantly, we need to get ready, so you can pop that gorgeous masterpiece on our table over there and get your ass into some clothes!" she slapped my ass and laughed as she went over to the grazing table and grabbed a couple grapes off it.
I went to my room and had a shower. I had to calm myself before the drunken storm. We were both turning 27 and during our tenure of living in New York we had managed to accumulate quite a few friends. Even a few friends who were well-known influencers. These years also brought our annual birthday party up as one of the low-key awesome events to go to. Or at least that's what Lisa constantly said.
I dried my hair and styled it with a subtle amount of product, more surfer-girl locks. I put a small amount of make-up on, just some mascara and a bold red lipstick before I put my dress on.
