chapter 2

Once I was home I walked up the pathway, opened the door as quiet as I could, cause if my parents are home well I’m gunna be in trouble, especially since I’m wearing someone else’s shirt. I went to the kitchen and got the dog food, I went up the stairs and into my room, I was just in time cause my parents were yelling at each other again, and they were coming up the stairs. “WELL I DON’T CARE” “YOU DON’T CARE ABOUT ANYTHING” “NO I DO CARE ABOUT LOTS, IVE CARED FOR MY DAUGHTER” “NO YOU DON’T CARE FOR HER, WHOS THE ONE THAT BOUGHT HER THAT DUMB DOG??” great they are fighting about me again. Scout whimpered and jumped on my bed beside me “oh Scout it will be alright, I hope” he barked and I pulled out my phone. I played on it until the maid Carly came and said dinner was ready. I don’t know how she puts up with my parents, but then again she is my mother’s sister….. yes my mom’s sister, she came to live with us when she was broke my parents got her to work and well when she had enough money to leave she never left, she has been like my mom not and aunt. “Come on sweetheart” “alright” I get out of bed and lock the door behind me, my parents never come in my room but it’s for Scout. I went down the stairs and my parents were at the table eating. “Hello” my mom said “hi” I said and sat down at the other end of the table. “So what did you do today?” my dad asked me “oh nothing really, just took Scout for a walk” I told them “oh really?? You didn’t see anyone?” my dad asked “well I did see some people” I told them, I wasn’t lying. “I don’t remember buying you that shirt” my mom said. Shoot I forgot to change. “Oh ya I went for a walk and it started to rain so I went and bought the shirt.” My aunt Carly was just looking at us. “Come on Destiny help me in the kitchen” she said I looked at her and nodded. I cleared my dishes and went to the kitchen with her. “Ya know I’m not buying that you bought that shirt.” “Oh ya? Why?” I asked “cause it says May 18th 2008” I looked down and It did say that “oh...” she laughed and we cleaned the kitchen. 

After the kitchen was clean I went up to my room. It was well around 8:30 so I decided to go to bed. I was in my bathroom when I heard sirens going off… uh oh, my parents are kinda thieves……. I heard the doorbell ring. I got off my butt and went to answer the door. “Hello?” I said to the two officers at the door. “Hi is this the house of a Thomas and Laurie Mclaire? “They asked “umm yes it is” I told them “and who are you?” “I’m their daughter Destiny Mclaire” I said shyly “alright come with us.” They said, one of them grabbed my arm and I pulled back “umm no” they grabbed me again and I said “what are you doing???”  “You’re not safe here you have to leave immediately” one of them told me “what? Why?” why do I have to leave my house??  “Because Thomas and Laurie Mclaire are wanted criminals, resources tell us that their next victim is their own daughter.”  My parents want to kill me???  “can I at least pack? Can I grab my dog??? What about my aunt??” I said “no time to pack, call your dog and aunt, and then let’s get out of here.” One told me. So I called them “SCOUT….. AUNTY CARLY” they both came running and saw the police “what’s the problem officer? “My aunt asked “no time let’s move” he pulled me out and Scout barked. “Down boy it’s alright come on” Scout followed so did my aunt they took me to the police van and we sat in the back. “what happened Destiny??” my aunt asked “they said that mom and dad want me dead..” I said “oh no….now?” my aunt said  “what Aunty?” I asked. “there’s something I haven’t told you before Destiny….” “What is it?? I asked “Well how do I put this… umm ok well before you were born your parents were criminals already but well they aren’t actually your parents….. your real parents were friends of mine and well  before they died your parents now had a choice, to take you and not get charged or to face the consequences… they took you but they signed a thing where the day before you turn sixteen they can do whatever they want to you….. and well they want to do what your real father did to you fake fathers daughter… kill you” my Aunt said… wait so they aren’t my real parents?? “wait what?? They aren’t my real parents? Why did my real dad kill my dad’s daughter??” I asked “well ya see your real dad he was a millionaire and well your fake dad sent his daughter in to your guys’ house, you were just born the week before. Anyways so their daughter broke in and well stole some things. But she got caught, so your father was very protective so he held a gun to her head, he knew he wasn’t going to shoot but your fake dad came in and saw the gun to her head so he pulled his gun out and shot your real dad. This caused a chain reaction to shoot his daughter. So then your real mom came down with you and well they made a deal and here we are.” She told me. “so wait my real mom is still alive??” I ask “yes she is” I sat there frozen, my parents aren’t my parents, they want to kill me, I’m going to the police office, and I have no idea who my real mom is. 

After about 20 minutes we were at the station, the back door opened and the two officers help me and my aunt out. “Here Scout” I called, Scout jumped out and I put his leash on, we walked into the office and into a room. “Aunty” I said, my Aunt looked at me “I’m scared” I said “It will be alright dear” she held onto me and then a woman came in. “so you’re the famous Destiny? Huh?” she said “umm I’m not famous” I told her, I’m just an ordinary person. “well we did a background check on you when you came in and well.” She pulled out a folder and took out pictures, newspaper, and letters. “These are for you.” She gave them to me and I read the newspapers headline, ‘exchange for a child?’ it read ‘a week after his fourth child Multi-Millionaire Jack Martin was found dead. “I woke up in the night after hearing a gunshot” said his wife Sarah tells us. Jack martin woke up to an 16 year old girl wondering his house, “My dad was a brave man, we all looked up to him” His son Charlie told us. In the night Jack and Sarah’s only daughter was taken, in exchange for the girl Jack Martin held at gun point. “I only wanted what was best for our family and well I hope when she grows up she will be safe” Sarah says. The next week the price on Thomas and Laurie Mclaire was gone.’ I looked at the pictures and they were of a family of six. “wait so this is me?” I asked the woman, I was pointing to a picture of a baby. “yes that was you, and these were your brothers.” I looked at my brothers. “so where are they now?” I asked. “well we cant tell you…” the woman said. “oh” I looked back to the pictures, “well you two need a safe home to stay in, so we are calling people that we can trust” I nodded and then I thought of something “wait I know someone can I call them?” “umm well we need to do a backup check can you give me their name?” the officer asked. “well I don’t know their last name but can I call them?” “alright but use that phone” she pointed to a phone. “ok?” I picked up the phone and called Jake “hello?.... hi this is Destiny is Jake there?..... Thanks……. Hey Jake….. I’m doing good….. Ya so um do you think me and my Aunt can stay at your place for a while?.....its a long story……. Really??...... Thank you so much…… Ya umm can we come tonight?.... Ok thanks we will be there at 11?....... Ok thanks” I hung up and said “ya he said we could” “alright lets get going then” we got up and I went to get Scout from outside. We hoped back into the van and we drove off to Jake’s place. We got there and the officer said “Your friends with the Stott’s??” “umm I guess if that’s their last name?”. We got buzzed in and Mr. and Mrs. Stott were standing at the door, we got out and Mrs. Stott said “Hello again Destiny, I’m sorry about what happened” I looked at her and said “its alright, and thank you so much for letting me and my Aunt staying here” “its no problem at all”. I nodded and she took us inside while Mr. Stott talked to the police, when we were inside Jake and Sarah came running down the stairs. “Destiny, are you alright??” Jake said “ya I’m fine” he came over a gave me a hug, I hugged him back and then Scout barked. We broke apart and Jake said “hey boy, Lucy and Zoey are in the barn.” He pointed and Scout took off to the barn, “my oh my this is a wonderful house” my Aunt said. “why thank you, oh Sarah can you show Mrs. Burnns to her room?” Mrs. Stott said “oh please call me Carly” “alright come with me” Sarah said, she took my aunty to the Guest room. “Destiny we um don’t really have any other rooms available, yet so umm” Mrs. Stott said “She can sleep in my room mother if she wants I can take the couch” Jake said. “Jake its fine stay in your room I can take the couch.” I told him, I’m not just going to kick him out of his own room. “I guess if you say so” he said “great now let’s go to bed Jake can you help her set up a bed, me and your father have a meeting tomorrow and we need to go to bed.” “Yes mother”  Jake took my hand and brought me up to his room, “so do you need clothes?” he asked, I looked at my clothes and said “ya kinda” he nodded and went to his closet, he came out with Sweatpants and a t-shirt. “the sweatpants may be a bit big but you can tighten them at the waist and well here’s another short of mine.” “umm thanks” I took them and went to the bathroom. i came out and Jake gad blankets and pillows, “so do you really want to sleep downstairs? Cause we do have a living room up here, or ya know you can sleep on the floor in here” Jake says. “well it doesn’t really matter its your house.” “so feel like sleeping on the floor here?” he asks “sure I guess” I say. We set up a bed on the floor and he climbs in his and I climb in mine and we fall asleep talking about what happened tonight.
