I yawn as I lean on the cluttered table. The mall is loud and filled with teenagers celebrating the end of the week by spending money they don't have as Christmas is fast approaching, and lazing around in the food court.
Things have been a little awkward with Ajax and I, well basically I am being a shy bitch around him trying to guard my feelings as he obviously doesn't feel the same way about me. And how do I feel about him? Like a dumbass I have developed feelings for him. I hate it but I can't help it. My heart softens when I think of his silly, annoying, endearing self.
"Are you thinking of Ajax again?" Maisie asks with a mischievous grin.
"What, no, what are you talking about?" I ask in a panic. My eyes dart to Adrian who is sat quietly beside me.
"You always have a soppy grin on your face when you think about him." Tiger chuckles from opposite me.
"No I don't," I retaliate, and the girls smile with an 'I-don't-believe-you' look.
We have come out for a drink after school, strictly no boyfriends allowed, although of course Maisie and I protested this as we are in fact single. It is our first girls-only date in a while, well, plus Adrian as mom is being forced to work late again, but he is quiet and no trouble sat with his earphones in as he doesn't like the loud noise of the mall.
It has been six weeks since the fallout between Violet and Tiger and everything is much better now; the turbulent waters have settled. Tiger and Noah are inseparable and spend most of their time together going on cute dates whilst Maisie, JD, Ajax, Giri and I hang out a lot. Ajax has warmed up to JD ever since I told him about his infatuation with Maisie, which is so obvious but somehow Ajax didn't see it before.
"Let's talk about Noah shall we?" I challenge, and Tiger clears her throat and looks down in embarrassment as Maisie giggles.
"Sure, he's wonderful." Tiger replies with a dreamy look in her dark eyes. I am pleasantly surprised that she feels comfortable enough to admit that she actually likes him. As a very private person, she doesn't share many details of their relationship, but I can tell she's happy which is all that matters. My eyes automatically shift to Maisie, but instead of finding her squirming uncomfortably she has a happy smile for them both.
"You guys are couple goals. I hope to have that one day." Maisie smiles as she taps her manicured fingers on the wooden table.
"You definitely will. Do you like anyone at the moment?" I dare to test the waters.
My eyebrows raise in excitement as her cheeks stain red. "Well..." Her eyes dart to Adrian but I subtly shake my head as he is too engrossed in his book and music to be listening to our fruitless conversations.
"Well... I think I my be developing feelings for JD," Tiger and I squeal excitedly drawing attention to us. "Well I can't help it! He is just so sweet and always there for me. He knows what I need before I do, and we may be going to the same college as we have always wanted to go to the same schools."
"I knew it!" I exclaim.
"Oh Maisie I am so happy for you! You should definitely tell him, he really, really likes you." Tiger insists as she runs her hands through her cropped black afro.
"Yes definitely, he is going to be thrilled! And that would be so cute if you end up going to the same college together!" I squeal.
"Yeah I'm not betting on it but it would be cute. I wouldn't want a long-distance relationship."
"I'm a bit worried about that with Noah. I really, really like him, more then anyone... ever. This is the first time I am dating someone who means a lot to me and I really don't want to lose him. It would be horrendous for our friendship group if we broke up, and what if we end up on different paths after high school and drift apart?" Tiger stresses.
