Time flies by when you're having fun, and when you're not having much fun, especially when you have endless amounts of essays and worksheets to go through. I think I just about managed to convince my mom that there is absolutely nothing going on between Ajax and I, before she started planning our wedding. I stayed up in my room definitely not hiding from him most of the weekend, but it wasn't a complete write-off though, as I met Tiger, Maisie, JD and Nick for dinner on Friday, giving me a valid excuse not to go to Old Joe's and see the Decree.
Unfortunately Nick's girlfriend broke up with him, so we took him out to cheer him up. He dropped the 'L' word way too soon, and I'm not talking about leprosy or lice. He was glum the whole evening, but apparently he has a plan to win Adalee back. JD says he has always been the same - giving his heart up too easily and clinging onto someone when they show him the least bit of affection.
I saw my window buddy Ajax a few times, but I really don't want to dwell on it. We had a few conversations here and there, until he ruined it by leaving his curtains open when he was having alone time with Kat. The image of her all over his shirtless body is burned into my brain like a tattoo, the type you regret seconds after. I was frozen in disgusted shock when his eyes met my horrified ones, and he literally pushed Kat off him as she disappeared onto the floor. He looked like he was going to say something as a guilty look twisted his face, but I finally switched back on and hurried out of my room.
He seemed ashamed that I caught him, which is obviously ridiculous as Kat is his girlfriend so it is natural that they want to be... close. I shiver as a reoccurring unknown violent emotion swirls inside of me wrecking my mood. I feel like banging my head against my locker to restart my brain, as ridiculous thoughts and feelings keep attacking me about Ajax. It is Monday and I feel like a hot mess minus the hot, and I am waiting with Maisie at Tiger's locker, as she had to drop some late homework in first thing to avoid detention.
If I didn't know Maisie as well as I do and genuinely like her, I might have decked her as she talks excitedly about the time Noah asked for her number. It was for a school project, but of course Maisie doesn't think that detail is important. I zone out as she excitedly gabbles at Noah, and also her grandma's birthday party which she hosted this weekend. Her bright blue eyes sparkle like gems and her violet-coloured hair is pin straight. I don't understand how she never gets in trouble for her 'extreme' hairstyles. I'm sure I would get sent home. Compared to her I look like an ogre in my everyday jeans and hoodie, and eyebags to accessorize. I really need to start sleeping before midnight.
"Hey Malati, morning Kia!" Maisie suddenly calls out, and I lazily open my eyes to see her hugging the two girls, who give each other a look. I stand straighter and try to look awake, as I realise the two beautiful girls are friends of Kat. I look anxiously down the hallway as dread fills my stomach. Great, here come the happy, intimate couple.
"Hello Maisie, oh and Lena." Malati smiles. I found out that she is Giri's cousin, and she is just as attractive as him. Her lustrous black hair is chopped into a straight bob at her shoulders, and even though she usually only wears sportswear (she is head of the cheerleading team, a gymnast and runs track) she is undeniably pretty and has a toned body everyone wants.
"Morning." I smile, suddenly feeling self-conscious. Especially around Kia. I would believe you if you told me she is Barbie's sister, with hair that looks like it was made from gold, a smile sure to grace magazines one day, and big seductive ocean eyes.
"Oh Lena I have been meaning to speak to you!" I brace myself with what I hope is a friendly smile as Kat flanked by Ajax and her friend Willa stop in front of us. Great, party in the hallway!
"Hi guys!" Maisie exclaims sweetly. She is possibly the most charismatic, happy person I have ever met.
"I am sorry about this weekend Lena, we'll make sure to shut our curtains in future." Kat giggles, but it is not maliciously. Even so ice strikes my heart, and I can't stop my eyes from sliding across to Ajax. He is already staring at me which makes me feel like a shot of electricity was administered to my system. He is so handsome as usual. Everyone else giggles - although Maisie is more confused, but Ajax looks solemnly towards me, raw emotion clouding in his dark orbs as if trying to say he's sorry.
