Rani Silverwind sprinted back home from school, gasping for breath. She glanced over her shoulder before pushing the castle door open, and hurriedly slamming it.

"What's wrong?" Her dad, King Silverwind called from his throne.

"I thought I saw something following me, so I sprinted home."

"You didn't need to slam the door."

"Fine." She huffed and headed to her room. A jolt of pain shot up from her ankle as she climbed the stairs. She looked down at her ankle.

This is what I get for running.

But it's only a few more steps. She thought. It had only been a week since Arcane had been defeated, and only a couple of days since her burn wound had completely healed. Myla had stayed at her mom's apartment and contacted her dad to pick her sister up. As if she couldn't get back to her house on her own. She managed to get up to her room and was greeted by her blue phoenix, Asche. He fluttered around the room, sending feathers down and littering the carpet. Rani promptly collapsed on her bed, blonde hair settling around her shoulders and stared vacantly at the mirror, thinking. Arcane's last words echoed in her head.

There are spirits more powerful than I who will want to destroy you!

Who could possibly be more powerful than Arcane.

Rani lost her train of thought as her eyes drifted over to the mirror that showed her dad, King Silverwind who was resting his head in his hands, looking exhausted.

He was just fine a minute or two ago, what happened?

Eh, ruling a kingdom is hard, I guess. She thought, justifying herself. Rani sighed and just as she was going to work on her dreaded homework, a knock came from just outside the window. She sat up, alert, and headed over to the window. Her boyfriend, Frey, was on the ledge, looking as calm as he could without falling off. Rani shook her head and opened the window.

"What are you doing here? And you should know to go through the front doors by now."

"So, what if I felt like coming through the window, I do have the right to, you know." Frey said.

"I guess that's what makes you special." Rani replied then kissed him lightly. She returned to her bed. "What brings you here?" She asked him again.

"Oh, you know, the usual. My house got too chaotic, and I needed to get out, then I got lonely, that kind of stuff." Frey told her.

"Really? Are you sure it wasn't to help me with homework?" She asked, a bit curious. "Because I was just about to do that y'know."

"If you want to." Frey responded, a smile tugging at the corners of his mouth. "But then again, I had other stuff in mind."

"Like what?"

"Like going to see the latest movie that just came out."

"I'd love to!" Rani blurted, then immediately blushed. "I mean, i'd love to go see a movie."

"I thought you might want to." Frey said, "I'll meet you here again at 6, alright?"

"Alright." Rani agreed.

Frey turned and opened the window, not letting Asche out of course, and headed back home. It was 4:30 now and Rani started on her homework. Forty-five minutes later, she happened to glance at the time. The clock showed 5:15 in steady blue letters. She finished that problem and went to get ready. With her blonde hair that was put in a ponytail for the school day, she decided to french braid it then drape it over one shoulder. After she did that, she swapped her regular outfit of a t-shirt and jean shorts for a light blue, full length dress. Rani examined herself in the mirror and finally decided on a sapphire necklace that complimented her outfit and most of all, her piercing blue eyes. She exited her room, and descended down the stairwell.

"Dad, I'm going out!" She called, pushing the doors to the castle open.

"All right. Don't be long!" He called back, but his words were lost in the slam of the castle door.
