When Myla got home, she headed up to her room to put her clothes away then get ready for bed. She came down to find her mother quietly sitting at the table with her head in her hands.
"What's wrong?" She asked softly.
Her mother looked up, and smiled weakly but her eyes were red from crying, "Nothing." she said after a while. Myla pulled up a chair and rested her hand on Aurora's back.
"It's going to be okay." She offered. It felt weird trying to give advice to an adult, usually it was the other way around. Aurora just sighed and got up, not wanting to involve her daughter in her troubles. After Aurora got up, Myla got up then headed to her room, figuring it was about bedtime.
I know something's up. I just can't place it... She thought. All of a sudden Myla laughed.
I just realized I was thinking the same thing about Nora a few weeks ago. She shook her head, clearing her thoughts and sat down on her bed. She stared at the ceiling for a few minutes before drifting off to sleep.
Ten hours later, sunlight streamed in through the window, causing Myla to groan in her sleep and turn over, facing away from the window.
"Get up or you'll be late for school!" Her mom called as she opened her door. Myla finally glanced at the clock and realized it was an hour and a half before school started. She jolted up and rushed to get dressed for the day, hurriedly throwing on her new top and fixing her hair for the day. When she got done she quickly grabbed some breakfast, a bagel, and headed out the door for school. She breathed a sigh of relief as she glanced at her phone, still having enough time to get to the bus stop.
Myla slowed her pace, and started munching on her bagel while scrolling through the recent news. She finally reached the bus stop, just in time too, before the bus arrived. Myla walked up the stairs, and into the bus the doors hissing as they closed behind her, she went to her usual seat and found that someone was already sitting in it. She looked around, and saw that the last empty seat was an aisle seat next to Nora.
I wonder why. She mentality scoffed. She gave a last glance at the girl, and went to sit down next to Nora on the very edge of the seat, and scrolled through her Wattpad account, checking out the recent stories and posts. The tires squealed as the bus pulled up to the school signifying the end of the trip, and the beginning of the school day. She got up and headed out, filing in line with the stream of students that went into the school. Myla headed to her first class of the day when her phone chirped. It was a text from her sister, Rani.
"Has anything weird happened yet?" It read.
Myla looked at it, then responded. "Uh, no, why?"
"Oh, no reason, but you can never be too sure after all that's happened lately."
"True, anyways, how are you?" Myla texted back. Rani said she was good, and things with her and Frey were going good. She responded that that was good and she has to go because class is starting.
"-but first there's a new student joining our class. Belka, would you come on up?" The teacher barely finished that statement before all heads swiveled towards Belka as she reluctantly got up from her desk and walked to the front of the class.
It's the girl from the bus. Myla thought as Belka introduced herself with a simple, "Hi, my name's Belka" She scanned the class, eyes landing on Myla "it's nice to meet you.".
