It was now Saturday. I was walking down the street to the town. I was planning on buying something to eat before going to Elijah's house. I walked past a school-like building. I stopped and looked at it.
Soon the large doors swung open. Sub jumped down the stairs and ran to the gate I was in front of.
"Denis! What are you doing here?" He had a large smile on his face. He wasn't wearing his scarf. He was wearing a t-shirt and shorts instead of a sweatshirt and sweatpants. A woman came out a few seconds later.
"Sub! It's not free time yet! Come finish your breakfast first!" She called. Sub sighed and walked over to her. They talked for a few minutes before the woman came over and unlocked the gate.
"Come in! Denis was it?" The old woman walked back to the building. Sub grabbed my hand and pulled me inside. The building looked old. There were little kids running around and older kids sitting around talking.
"Are you ok? You're not acting like yourself." I asked Sub. He giggled and pulled me up the stairs.
"I'm fine! After talking to you yesterday, I've been trying to be more open. Besides I'm really happy right now!" Sub cheered. We got to a long hallway of doors. Sub opened one and went inside. There were three beds, three dressers, and a desk. One of the beds was messy, the other two were neatly made. Sub walking over to one of the neat beds.
There was a suitcase sitting on top with clothes in it. Sub went over to a dresser, grabbed more clothes, and stuffed them into the suitcase.
"Are you leaving?" I asked, looking around the room more. There were childish drawings and paintings on the walls.
"Kinda," Sub called. He turned to me, still smiling. "I finally got a foster family!"
"That's great!" I replied.
"I'm staying with them until I'm 18. Then, I'm going to move in with Elijah." Sub stuffed more things into the suitcase and closed it. "The family lives in the school district so I'll still be going to the same school.
I help Sub pack his things into his suitcase. I was glad that he was being so open about everything. Before yesterday, I didn't know that he was an orphan. That might've been what he and Ethan talked about.
The woman from earlier walked up and knocked on the door. Sub spun around smiling.
"They're here!" The woman cheered. Sub quickly zipped the suitcase shut and ran out the door. I followed him. I stood at the top of the stairs looking over. Sub ran up to a couple. Both were girls. They both bent down and talked to Sub for a few minutes before they hugged.
One woman had tan skin like Sub. She had very short blond hair, the tips dyed bright pink. She wore ripped jeans and a white t-shirt.
The other woman had much darker skin. Her hair was black with strands of red woven into her braids. She had a grey jean jacket and a dark red dress. Her red lipstick stuck out as she smiled.
The old woman walked down the stairs and I followed. She went up to the group. As I got closer, I noticed that Sub had tears in his eyes. So did the two women.
"Denis, this is Sarah," Sub pointed to the blond woman. She waved and smiled. I waved back. "And this is May." Sub pointed to the other woman. She did the same as Sarah. The old woman asked them to follow her and they left. Sub looked happier than ever. I haven't seen him like this for a long time. We both talked for a few minutes until May and Sarah returned.
"Alright! You ready to go?" May asked Sub. He nodded. Sarah held out her hand and Sub took it. He waved goodbye to me and they left. I left soon after.
I continued my walk to town. I reached a cafe and bought a bagel. Then I walked towards Elijah's house. I decided to take a different route. One that passed Alex's house. I reached the long driveway. It led up to a large house. It reminded me of a castle. Like in Theuton. There was a gate in front of the driveway. I went up to it.
