Four and a half months later
"Shit, shit, shit, why did I ever think this was a good idea to go by myself," continuously cursing under my breath, I sprinted down the stairs, almost tripping in my haste.
"Someone! Get her!" Several voices called after me, all shouting angrily.
"Suck it losers!" I quickly checked the contents of the small satchel strapped across my shoulder before flinging the nearest door open. I was hoping for a staircase down to the first floor, but I was met with a crowd of bewildered faces.
Moving onto the next door, I repeatedly looked for the staircase. I mean it had to be around here somewhere. Damn it, I must have taken a wrong turn in my rush and ended up in a different hallway.
The room I was currently in had a decently sized window looking out onto the street. Leaning against a post, impatiently tapping his foot, was Dabi. Over the past four and a half months we had bonded quite well. Currently, we shared an apartment as I hadn't been home since I met him. Earlier, we were walking in the not so great parts of town when I spotted a great chance to show off my new skill set. I had taken to pickpocketing like second nature. I managed to snatch a pass to this building, an illegal support item business, along with some cash. Apparently, this place is pretty prominent in the underworld or something based on the quality of the stuff I managed to swipe, not to mention how intense their security is. Like seriously, where do they find all these guys? With a bang, the door swung open behind me.
"I found her!" A man yelled.
Well crap. Time to improvise.
"See ya suckers, I had such a pleasant time," I backed up a couple steps before sprinting full speed ahead, into the window. My shoulder took the brunt of the force as I crashed through, glass shattering everywhere. Below, Dabi looked up just in time to see me.
"Catch!" I hollered, hoping he got the memo.
Sure enough, he raised his arms, slowing my fall with his body.
"What the hell, Izumura," he muttered, trying his best to sound disappointed, but his eyes showed a hint of exultation.
I shrugged, helping him up as a smile spread across my face. Out of the front doors bust a squad of security personnel, running full speed at us, guns blazing, and quirks aimed.
"You mind sending up a smokescreen to cover us?" I asked sweetly, knowing full well I was going to get scolded for my recklessness later. Better to start sucking up now.
"My pleasure," he raised his hands, letting out a massive outburst of heat and smoke that sent the men tumbling.
We started off down the street, passing disoriented onlookers. I pulled out my phone, snapping a selfie of Dabi and I with all the chaos in the background. I chuckled at all the howling and cursing behind us. Dabi's flames had halted the chase as everyone tried to smother their burning clothing so as to not burn themselves.
Today was a little more exciting than usual, but overall, in the past four months I had so much more fun partaking in some not so legal activities. We turned down a few side streets before stopping, finally sure that we had shaken everyone off. We both leaned against the wall, huffing and out of breath.
"Did you really need to be so overdramatic?" Dabi pushed himself up, taking the 'you're in trouble' stance.
"I had no other choice," it was true. My options were either jumping through the window or turning myself in.
He signed, shaking his head.
"Well, I got you something," he turned back to me, slightly interested.
