"I was thinking-"
"Bloody hell, that's never a good sign," Newt groaned.
Vera laughed, "shut up and listen. I say we do something fun tonight. The Glade could use some lightening up once and a while."
Newt couldn't help but agree. The Glade really could use some lightening up. They sure as hell weren't getting out of here anytime soon. Newt, Minho, and the other runners ran the Maze everyday, and each day they seemed to lose more and more hope of finding a way out of this place.
"What's the plan?"
Vera grinned, "Late night kitchen raid. Stargazing."
Vera was smiling like a little kid, and that gave him the tiniest sliver of hope.
"Better not let Frypan catch us," he said, a smile making its way onto his face.
"He already agreed," Vera said.

It was 11pm. The sky was dark, and the moon was full. A group of Gladers were in the kitchen.
Vera managed to round up Minho, Ben, Newt, Nick, Gally, Winston, Clint, Jeff, and Frypan. They were laughing, and Vera smiled as she watched Minho throw an apple at Gally, he turned around looking angry, but there was a light in his eyes that suggested otherwise.
"Can we make a cake?" Jeff spoke up.
"With what ingredients?" Frypan asked, staring at him with wide eyes.
"The basics, y'know," Winston added, "flour, milk, sugar, eggs."
"Let's make a cake!" Vera said, jumping off the counter she was sitting on.
Frypan sighed, but he was smiling, and the Gladers knew he would give him.
"This tastes like klunk," Minho muttered.
"Minho's right," Ben said, even though he took another bite of the cake.
"Well, what did you shanks expect? We needed chocolate, vanilla, anything with flavour," Frypan said exasperatedly, "It also doesn't help that none of you shanks can cook for klunk."
The cake tasted terrible, but they ate it anyway because they were happy.
It wasn't long before they made their way out to the middle of the Glade. The best place for stargazing, which Vera pointed out multiple times. They were all lying down, telling funny stories, and sharing memories they made in the Glade. It was a moment they'd never forget, which sounded odd considering of all people, they knew firsthand how easy it was for their memories to be taken in just a second.
Everything would go downhill from here, but they didn't know that just yet. For right now, they were for once, just living in the moment.
