"Welcome to the Crank Palace," a guard grumbled, roughly pushing Vera into the dirty building.

The place was disgusting, but the people were even worse. They looked terrible. They barely looked like people anymore. They all had sad eyes, like the person they once were, was still trapped inside a body that couldn't be controlled.

Vera had to find Gally. Knowing him, he would be in the most concealed place, somewhere that was far away from everyone else.

She went to the darkest part of the building, there were a couple Cranks looming around, dragging their feet as they walked, but one stood out to her. He was tall and hunched over in a corner.

"Gally?" she called out.

The person turned, and ran up to her, hugging her. Something so unlike Gally, it shocked her more than anything she's seen or heard the past couple weeks.

"Vera. It's you. Shuck, it's actually you," he muttered, stumbling over his words.

"We escaped, we managed to escape," she laughed, something that sounded so foreign to her.

Gally pulled away, and his face turned serious, "you died, Vera. We buried you. It was bad, everyone was upset. Minho took it the hardest. I did some bad things, Vera. Really shucking bad."

Minho. She missed him. She missed him more than anything. His voice, his smile, even his stupid, smart ass comments. It hurt to think about him. It hurt to think that she would probably never see him again.

She shook it off, trying her hardest to forget, but that was nearly impossible.

"What happened, Gally?"

Gally almost started crying, his voice was merely a whisper when he finally spoke, "I killed Chuck. I didn't mean to! It was WICKED! WICKED was controlling me, Vera. You have to believe me."

Chuck. The boy who turned out to be like a little brother. He was so young; he didn't deserve that.

"I believe you," Vera said, her sounding more confident than she felt, but she had to trust Gally. They were in this together now, it was only them now.

"What happened, after I, after I died?" she whispered.

"A girl came, the same day. I saw her in the Changing. Just like I saw Thomas. The sky turned grey; the walls wouldn't close. Grievers. They took me, but they didn't kill me. I woke up in WICKED," Gally explained.

A girl. A girl came the same day she died. It was like she was replaced. It was like WICKED used her to fill her spot. Vera was bitter.

Her train of thought was broken when a guard came up to them.

"Gally and Vera?" he asked.

"That's us," Gally said, speaking for the both of them.

"Come with me."

The pair shared a look, both of them thinking the same thing. The people who gave them the plan to escape were here for them.
