Chapter 2

Something was definitely wrong.

Eli could feel that something terrible was coming. There were multiple reasons why. First, she was wearing a pink frilly nightdress, something she would never wear to school.

Second, there was a crazy man claiming he was her mate, which was hard to believe in the first place, and his attitude wasn't really in his favor either.

Third, men were running as fast as they could in the middle of the night, and they weren't going just anywhere. They ran towards her like their lives depended on it.

"Your Majesty!"

"Your Highness!"

The man who said he didn't believe a single thing that came out of her mouth, suddenly pulled Eli by his side swiftly and lowered his head to lowly growl in her ears.

"I'm doing the talking, and you will say nothing, understood?"

She would have listened to him, really, if it wasn't her crush racing towards them.

Of course, she meant her crush from college, not the newfound crush she had for the unintelligible nutcase of her green-eyed savior who was epic eyecandy.

When your major was electrical engineering, you were bound to bump into a lot of guys, and even though it's one out of a hundred, there was the slim chance you find yourself friends with a decent guy.

Alec was a decent friend of Eli's. And ever since her crush started, she had experienced the term 'friend-zoned' in so many levels, she found it hard to count.

But she survived a near death experience, she allowed herself to seek comfort in a friendly face.

"Alec!" She untangled herself from her so called mate's arms, and rushed to where Alec was a few feet away catching his breath from the run. She was too relieved to see someone she knew, that Eli completely missed Alec's initial recoil when she hugged him tight, the bewilderment from the other warriors, and the threatening growl behind her.

Lord Alexander- in all his blonde six-feet-two glory- chuckled nervously, but secretly felt relieved seeing her safe. He was about to raise his hand to comb her wet hair, but stopped short when he met the Prince's gaze. The Crown Prince stood not at his full height, but slightly hunched, making himself look even weaker than usual.

Pulling the Lady from his arms, he straightened himself whilst gently taking her hands before he turned down to his trembling Lady with serious eyes.

"Lady Elise, your lack of vigilance is concerning. Who pushed you into the lagoon? How someone would dare to even touch the Crown Princess is beyond me unless-"

Alec fussed nonstop as he prepared to give her another lecture of constant vigilance when he jolted at the connection. Eli, sensing him pointedly glaring at the drenched man, who she now saw was in a slight hunch downplaying his actual height, hurriedly corrected him.

"Oh, he pulled me out of the lake- and uh- why are you keep calling me Lady Elise? My name is Eli." She frowned slowly as she recalled both the handsome guy and Alec both referring her to Lady Elise.

At this, Alec narrowed his eyes at the Prince, but shortly turned his questioning eyes to the girl in front of him and replied, "My name is Alexander, and you are.. Lady Elise, the Crown Princess your Majesty."

"What are you all talking about? I'm your friend from the engineering course we listen together..." Eli's voice died in her throat as both Alec- or Alexander, she wasn't even sure about his name- and the green eyed spectator who was looking closely at their exchange, turned their confused gaze at her.

The Prince who remained quiet, keeping his facade ever since the lu Pavel Alpha arrived, was slowly becoming agitated with the proximity with which Lord Alexander handled his mate. The pup was pushing too far and didn't know when enough was enough.

But before he could lash out, Eli, who was beyond tired and overwhelmed at the same time, tipped over and to his surprise, blacked out in the Alpha's arms.

He inwardly praised Lady Elise's impeccable timing to black out, refraining him from doing anything stupid, but it was impossible to squash down the terror and protectiveness of seeing his mate faint at another wolf's arms.

Lord Alexander, meanwhile, was boiling at the treatment Lady Elise constantly got from the au Lorn family. He despised that every time he had a chance to see her, her condition only worsen than get better. After she got sent to be the au Lorn Prince's mate, she was in the mercy of who he hated the most in particular, the Prince himself.

"I suggest you to hand her over to me, Lord Alexander. I will take her to our chamber." The Prince motioned for the other warriors to back off, his hardened features and the tense atmosphere ushering them outside the garden, with the exception of the lu Pavel Alpha still holding Lady Elise.

Alexander flinched inwardly at the way the Prince said 'our chamber', and the thought of Lady Elise in bed with the Prince scorched his brain. Yes, the heir of the lu Pavel family had the upper-hand in politics, compared to the powerless au Lorn Prince in front of him, but in the end, Lady Elise was mated to the Prince, a gap that no amount of power could fill.

"Treat her well, Trenton au Lorn, or I will personally handle you myself your Majesty." He spat at the Crown Prince while handing over him the female he loved with everything in his heart.

Alexander added with a final warning, "I will get down to the bottom of this unfortunate accident myself, and if I even get a whiff that you have been involved in her almost-drowning, I will see it to myself that you get the same predicaments.", he bowed and as an after thought added, "Your Majesty."

No one called the Prince by his full name, and certainly no one threatened the Crown, but Alexander was no ordinary Alpha. He was the heir to the lu Pavel family, a family deeply intertwined with the au Lorn Crown, staking a claim to many of its powers. Politically the two families were neck to neck, with the ba Ruslan family adding to the power play. The au Lorn Prince was a mere figurehead the lu Pavel planted to control the monarchy and keep it away from the ba Ruslan's grasp to use it as they saw fit. Therefore, Trenton au Lorn, the Crown Prince of the whole werewolves species was no greater, if not lesser than Alexander lu Pavel.

But the lu Pavel did not know what giving the crown to the green-eyed spectator would lead to. As the lu Pavel concentrated on their partisan fights with the ba Ruslan family, Trenton au Lorn was brewing a storm, and getting ready for their ultimate downfall.
