Erica-
"So what you going to do now?" My mother asked me after I returned home. She seemed unfazed that I was dropping yet another class.
We were currently in the kitchen of our pack house. She was at the counter slicing vegetables and I was sitting at the island.
"I'm not sure." I told her honestly. I haven't really thought about what to do next.
In high school I was a straight A and B student but yet I was still average. I never joined clubs or sports and never went out with friends that much. I was "go with the flow" Erica and that didn't bother me as much as it did right at this moment.
I was a 22 year old Alpha's daughter debating with my mother what's the next class I should take to figure out what I really love.
And I never felt more pathetic...
Before I could cry in front of mother, I excused myself and went to the living room where hopefully the TV could distract me from my upsetting thoughts.
On the couch was a teenage boy wolf and a little girl around five I was assuming was his sister. He was helping her with homework by the looks of it.
"Come on Sabrina, I know you know this one." He said to the little girl.
I felt like I was interrupting a private moment so I turned to leave but changed my mind when I heard 'Sabrina' burst into tears.
"No I don't. I can't do it."she said.
The boy sighed heavily, he seemed stressed; not with her but himself.
I walked over to them so they could notice my presence and squatted in front of her.
"Hi, what's your name?" I asked even though I knew the answer.
She wiped her tears before speaking up. "Sabrina."
"That's a pretty name." I said
She giggled and said thank you.
"What are you doing? Homework?" I asked.
She smiled and nodded her head.
"Can I see it?"
She nodded her head and passed me her paper. It was simple addition problems, well atleast for me.
I smiled and nodded at her. "Oh yea. This is hard."
She turned to her brother and stuck out her tongue. "I told you it was hard."
He sighed heavily again and I winked at him causing him to blush.
"I have a trick to do these problems." I said. "But I don't know if you are ready for it..." I trailed off teasing her.
"I'm ready! I'm ready!" She said bouncing on the couch.
I laughed at her excitement and looked at her homework again. The first problem was five plus four.
"Alright my trick is instead of counting in your head, you count using your fingers." I wiggled my fingers in front of her face after I was finished speaking.
"My fingers..?" She asked sounding confused.
"Yea." I nodded to confirm what I said. "For this problem you need to put up five fingers on one hand and four on the other."
She did as I said and looked up at me when she was done.
"Ok now you have to count it all together."
Her lips parted slightly as she counted softly all the way to nine.
"Nine?" She asked.
"Correct!" I yelled startling her. I laughed and her brother chuckled at her shocked face.
"Ok now do four plus three." I said.
She put up her fingers again and started to count and I got up to leave when her brother grabbed my wrist. I looked at him confused then he whispered "Thank you".
I nodded my head and walked upstairs to my third in command, Ryan, office. He was my best friend, next to my brother, and understood how I really felt about not having a career.
"Yes I believe you now sir." I heard him say in an awfully serious voice. If anyone knew Ryan Oglesby, they would know he's anything but serious.
I slowly opened his office door and slipped inside. He was on the phone and his whole face was stern.
"Yes, of course. I will talk to my Alpha immediately. Thank you."
He hesitantly put down the phone like he was scared to hang up.
"Who was that?" I asked after he finally placed the phone back on the hook.
"Someone I should have not been messing with."
"What do you mean ?" I asked taking a seat across from him.
"Alpha Baker is going to kill me." he muttered under his breath.
"I might have to kill you first if you don't tell me who that is."
"It was someone from the kingdom. The werewolf kingdom." He finally answered. I instantly became intrigued in the conversation. Not many packs were contacted by Royalty.
"What did they want?" I asked leaning back in the seat.
"The guard, I'm assuming, said there was a problem near around our territory and the Alpha King needs to stay here a while."
"Wow. Must be a big deal if he needs to leave the kingdom." I said quickly losing interest in the story and getting up to leave.
"Wait!" he yelled stopping me. "Can you come with me to talk to your dad?" he pleaded.
I slowly reclosed the door behind me. "What did you do?"
He sighed heavily and laid his head on his desk. "I thought you were prank calling me."
Instead of replying, I laughed. Growing up together, Ryan and I always prank called each other. I stopped two years ago thinking we were too old to continue but he always thought I was going to try again.
"Prank call from the Royal Kingdom? That's good but don't worry." I told him after I recomposed myself, "You will always keep that title of 'Prank Master's and yes I will go with you to my dad."
He gave a girly squeal of happiness and I couldn't help but laugh again.
