I had been up all night sitting on my bed, playing with a melody on my guitar. Since it had been a while since I played, I was a bit rusty. But I eventually found my rhythm and created a new melody.
So when I walked into the backyard of Miyagi-Do, I was a little bit out of it. Okay maybe a lot out of it. The first things my sleepy eyes caught was Robby pounding the punching bag extremely hard and violent. "What's wrong with you?" Robby asked, seeing me move sluggishly.
"Didn't sleep." I responded taking a seat on the ground.
"As in voluntarily or.." He continued to punch the bag. I looked at him noticing his knuckles were taped and his frustrated expression.
"Voluntarily. Are you okay?"
"My mom left to go to Cabo with some dude she just met." He answered dryly.
"That sucks, I'm sorry." I finish just in time for Sam to walk into the backyard, talking on her phone. "Miguel, I can't talk right now. Just tell Aisha to call me back." Hearing his name, Robby stopped punching and looked at Sam.
She hung up the phone. "I thought it was Aisha." She explained, setting her bag down and dropping her phone into it.
"You can talk to whoever you want." Robby replied coldly and went back to punching the bag, only this time it was visibly harder than last time.
"Hey guys!" Danial said coming around the corner. "Alright, prefect attendance on day one."
"So, what's our first lesson?" Sam asked.
"Wait, so she just gets out of chores like that?" I complained.
Sam shot me a playful glare and then smiled. "Follow me." He told us.
He brought us out to the car lot in front of the dojo. When we reached our destination, Danial grabbed a bag of white sand and stuck a pocket knife in the bottom, creating a hole for the sand to leak out. He picked up the bag and walked in a large circle, creating an outline with the sand. "If were gonna play in the sand, can't we just go to the beach?" Sam questioned.
"No, not today." Mr. LaRusso folded the knife in half and tucked it into his pocket. "It's been a long time since this dojo's had more than one student." He paused, without shifting my head, I looked towards Robby and Sam, who were both looking at each other. Sam with a smile on her face and Robby's face unreadable. "And you figure with two people you have twice the defense, right?" He asked us.
I looked over at Robby and Sam who were both nodding their heads yes, but I felt as though this was a trick question. "No." I spoke, causing both of the teenagers to my left to look at me.
"Correct Lydia. One of the cornerstones of Miyagi-Do karate is always moving in a circle." He brought his hands up to demonstrate moving in a circle. "And with the wheel technique, you'll soon see that two people can be just as strong as twenty. Now are you ready?" He asked us.
"Yes Mr. LaRusso."
"Let's do this." Sam responded.
"Okay Lydia and Robby get into the circle. Sam there going to go first because they've been here longer." Her dad explained to her.
"That's fine." Robby and I walked into the circle, standing on opposite sides of one another.
"Face me, bow." Danial instructed. We did what we were told. "Face each other, bow." We turned towards one another and locked eyes as we bent over into a bow.
Sorry guys, I know this is a really short chapter but, oh well. Enjoy!! Comment and Vote!!
