ANGELIC – CHAPTER FIFTEEN
"You still have me. You'll always have me."
Isabel sighed and moved back slightly, his arms shifted from her lower back onto the top of her arms as her hands slid onto his forearms. She looked up at him through thick lashes, eyes still teary from crying. "I sure hope so, I don't think I can handle losing anyone else, Jean."
"I'm not going anywhere, twinkle toes, so you don't have to worry about it." He offered her a lopsided grin and lifted his right hand, swiping his thumb under her eyes to catch the tears, his hand rested on her cheek for a moment as he looked down at her. Isabel nestled her head into his hand, jade meeting topaz. His thumb rubbed her cheek as he stared down at her, even after she'd been through hell and looked the worst he'd ever seen her - she still managed to look beautiful.
The longer Jean looked at her the more beautiful she looked. Blotchy cheeks from the crying, green eyes glistening due to the tears that refused to burst their banks, he hated to admit it but she looked gorgeous.
She watched carefully as his brown eyes seemed to almost look like honey in the setting sun. She couldn't help herself but stare up at him as his finger brushed against her cheek, but she didn't really care that she was looking, after everything she had been through that day she was entitled to be a little weird.
His hand felt warm against her cold skin, she didn't like the cold very much. She hesitantly lifted her hand and placed it on top of his, holding it in place. His cheeks slowly began to burn pink and she had to suppress the giggle that wanted to escape her lips, he was flustered.
It was just like the night where she had wiped away the dried blood for him, she looked utterly beautiful underneath the orange hue of the sky, he deserved to stare after the mission he had endured today, even if she found it a little strange afterwards.
"Smith! Kirstein!"
The pair jumped out of the position they were in immediately, arms flying into a salute as they turned to face the voice who had called them, their faces a bright hue of red. Levi stood in front of them, his arms folded over his chest as he eyed the taller boy suspiciously, his eyes narrowed. "Kirstein, I suggest you go see Commander Erwin for your orders." His eyes then shifted to Isabel. "Smith, you're with me."
"Sir!"
"Sir!"
The silver-haired girl took a few steps towards the Captain before she quickly turned around, her hand wrapping around Jean's wrist. He turned his head over his shoulder, his cheeks still a violent shade of pink. "You promised me a walk, Kirstein, when I get back?"
His lips curled upwards into a smile, his head nodding. "Of course."
"We don't have all day, Smith."
"Coming, Captain." The words left her lips as her fingers left his wrist, her lips curled upwards as she turned on her heel to follow after the shorter man. He stood patiently, his arms folded over his chest as he eyed Jean one last time before moving to her. "Let's go, shall we?"
Levi didn't answer her but instead nodded his head as he walked beside her. His eyes flickered from straight away back to her, his lips desperate to form into a smirk but didn't dare as he noticed how her cheeks were still a faint pink colour. "So, Kirstein, huh. What's the deal with that? I thought you hated each other."
"Oh - uh, nothing, Captain." Isabel rushed out, her cheeks burning a brighter shade than they previously had. "We're friends, that's all, nothing more and nothing less. He doesn't see me like that."
