The building was quiet by the time Y/N arrived. Each employee was adjusting their workspace before receiving people. Y/N waved, greeting Bridget, and climbed into the elevator. While on the move, she picked up her phone and started checking her electronic calendar, getting ready for the day ahead.“What is this?” Henry asked the young receptionist behind the counter, his back facing Y/N.
“Uhm. This is for Miss Y/L/N, sir.” She explained. “Miss Y/L/N, these roses are for you.” The woman added when she saw Y/N approaching them.
“Good Morning.” Y/N said, greeting them both. “Who sends them?” She questioned taking the flowers.
“What does it matter? You don't even like flowers.” Henry said pulling away from the counter. “Whoever sent them should know better...”
“There is a note inside the bouquet. The name of the sender must be in there.” Said the secretary when she saw how Y/N did her best to ignore Henry.
“It's okay, I’ll look for it. Thank you, Sonia.” She said taking the bouquet and carrying it to her office. Henry turned around as well, heading to his own office. "I’ll be in my office." he said before leaving.
Once in her office, Y/N put the bouquet on her desk and began looking for that note. Until she finally found It. Behind some of the white flowers, was a small light blue paper folded in two. Taking it, she quickly opened it, while taking a seat.
‘It was good to get back in touch after so long. I hope we can see each other soon.
With love, Jake.’‘Who the hell is Jake?’ Y/N thought in her head, unable to understand what was going on. What was he talking about? She couldn't remember talking to anyone named Jake in the past few days. Did the flower shop send them to her by mistake?
Even though she didn’t know who the flowers belonged to, or who was sending them, she decided to keep them. Placing them on one of the small tables next to her desk, she watched them from afar. It surprised her to think that Henry would remember that she actually didn’t like flowers. Well she did like flowers, what she had never liked, since she was little, was the fact that someone would nip such beautiful flowers. I mean, what was the point of giving nipped flowers? After all, they would die in a few days at most. They reminded her of funerals, where everyone sent large flower arrangements that ended up squashed and torn. She’d rather have flowers remain in the ground or a flower pot at least, where they could grow and stay alive. But in this particular case, she had liked them. White flowers were her favorite and she had made up her mind to appreciate them, at least for as long as she could.
Her phone ringing brought her back to reality. Looking at the screen, she noticed that it was a call from her best friend. Without thinking twice, she moved her finger to the right and answered.
“Good Morning.” Lilly said stretching the words. Apparently, someone had woken up in a very good mood.
“Good Morning.” Y/N greeted in response. “What a great coincidence.” Y/N added, followed by a 'Oh, oh' from her friend. “I just received a bouquet of roses from some guy named Jake. Is there something you’d like to tell me?” She questioned.
“Maybe, maybe not...” She said innocently. Y/N knew there was nothing innocent about the young woman on the other end of the line.
“What did you do this time?” She asked sighing already tired.
“Have you ever heard about these new apps that help you find dates?” She asked.
“Lilly no.” Y/N said, only getting silence from the other side. “Lillian, what have you done? “ She said exasperated.
