"What do you mean you can't go?" Y/N asked taken aback.
She'd had the longest day, but everything had seemed to turn out right. The conferences were smoothly done, and everyone was happy with the results. Most employees had already left the building and those who hadn't yet wouldn't be there for long. In a way, Y/N was thankful it was finally Friday, but this news took her by surprise. She wasn't expecting to hear was Jones had just said; That changed everything.
"I'm sorry Ms. Y/L/N, but I promised my daughter I would fly to Florida for the holydays. I thought I had told you three weeks ago..." Jones said apologetically
"Oh my god, you did. I'm sorry, must have forgotten; the past few weeks have been a bit hectic." She admitted, already stressed out for the day.
"I'd travel with Mr. Cavill if I could, but a promise is a promise." Jones told her.
"I know. It's ok, I'll figure something out." She said as the gears in her head started working at full speed.
"Should I talk to Mr. Cavill?" He asked.
"No, I'll take care of it. I just need to think of something first." Y/N told him. "Is James still in his office?" She asked.
"I'm afraid not ma'am. He left on the 3.45pm flight to Vancouver." Jones said checking his agenda.
"What about Kelly? Is she here?" She asked.
"Kelly's on maternity leave, miss." He told her.
"Right, sorry I forgot. And Claire? Or Jack?"
"Sorry, they are both in the LA resorts." He told her, once again checking his agenda.
"Fuck." She spat. "I'm sorry... Is anyone still here? In the building, the city, anywhere near?"
"Let me check, just a second." Jones said looking at the screen.
"Send it to my office, please." She asked him. "I'll check them there." She added standing up and straightening her skirt.
'Just what I needed' she thought; Another problem for her to solve. She couldn't believe she had forgotten Jones was going to be away for the break. She wished she had remembered sooner, now almost everybody was either in their hometowns or their job managing some hotel around the country. Doing some math on her head, she thought that there might be around fifteen people in the city and she knew half of them were not up to the task.
"That's the face I wanted to see." Lilly yelled as soon as she saw Y/N walking inside her office.
"How do you always manage to get in here?" Y/N wondered.
"I've got my secrets." Lilly said. "Why that face though? You should be happy; it's break time baby! I have a whole lot of things planned for us." She told her.
"I have a problem to solve first." She told her friend, taking the paper that had just came out of the printer. The names were fewer that Y/N expected to see, and none of them seemed to convince her to assign them the task.
"What happened now?" Lilly questioned.
"Turns out Jones can't go to Paris with Henry for the event." Y/N told her friend. "I need to find someone else to go with him, but it's last minute, everyone's already left."
"Even Claire?" She asked, but her friend just shook her head still staring at the paper on her hand. "And what about you? Why don't you go with him?"
"Because I..." Y/N started saying, but couldn't find a proper reason not to go with him other than wanting to have a day of from anything company related.
