"Your Majesty," I say immediately. At first glance, I knew I recognize that face. Even the news of the most beautiful girl on Luna has spread into my satellite.
"No, please just call me Winter. I like to think that I don't behold more power over others," she says.
"Well you sure we're right about her being kookoo," mutters Thorne. "I mean, if I were royalty I'd- oof!" Cinder elbowed him in the stomach.
"Yeah, whatever, listen Winter," Cinder spat out, "I don't know what game you think you're playing but you better explain now what you're doing here. The last time someone working for Levana came here, one of us got captured." I'm shocked that Cinder can say such a heartless thing, but then again, we don't know who we can trust anymore.
"What do you mean? I found this D-COMM chip in my living quarters. After my stepmother left."
"Woah, woah, woah, hold on. Levana?" Thorne asks.
"I am as clueless as you are. I don't know how this chip came into my grasp. But by the looks of it, Levana seemed to drop this."
"Wait, there has to be some kind of logical explanation for all of this," I interrupt. "First of all, how could someone have a direct communication
chip that links to ours. They will have to need a compatible coding and communication software.""Unless this ship somehow is already linked up to you," Wolf suggests. "Think about it. We found this chip already placed in the ship where we found it." Then everyone's attention went to Thorne.
"Well Thorne, anything you have to say?" Kai interrogates.
"Hey, I'm just saying, that that was there when I got the ship," Thorne fends off, with his hands up in surrender.
"You mean stole," corrects Kai.
"Ok stop. Your fighting isn't getting us anywhere," says Cinder. "Clearly," she gives Thorne a look, "Thorne didn't know anything about this 'link'. But you said Levana had a chip and left it with you, Winter."
"Well, accidentally. As I said before I don't think Levana knew that the chip was there."
"So the only logical explanation is that someone must've hidden it for you to find it," I says, "Winter, there's an infiltrator in the palace."
Then we heard a knock on Winter's door. "Princess Winter, one of your pets requests a meeting" says a Lunar guard through the door.
"Which one?" I raised my eyebrows.
"The one with the red hair."
At those words, Wolf scrambles from his current position and pushes everyone out of his way, so he's the one in front of the netscreen.
"Wait, did he say 'red hair'?" gasps out Wolf.
"Yeah. Scarlet. Why?" asked Winter.
"Here we go," said Thorne, rolling his eyes, "in three, two, one..."
"YOU HAVE TO SHOW ME HER!" explodes Wolf. Everyone jumps back in surprise.
"Princess Winter?" asks the Lunar guard, still on the other side of door.
"Hmmmmm," said Winter thinking, "Ok. If it makes you happy." She smiles Wolf exhales in relief.
"I'm ready," she calls out to the guard.
"
I'm going to have to end this call," she says to us, "I'll contact you when I get to the cages.""Cages?" Wolf asks. But the call was already ended. We all stare at a black and empty netscreen. We all stood there for a while.
The beep of my portscreen interrupts the silence. It was time for Thorne's treatment. I end the alarm.
"Thorne, it's time for your eye drops." He just nods.
I lead him out of my office. We walk in silence. Then I ask, "How's your eyes?"
"Actually, pretty good. It's black and white, but my vision's getting sharper. Pretty soon, I'll be able to stare at your face like lovers are supposed to." He give me a flirtatious smile. I blush.
We make it to the med room. Thorne lays down on one of the metal counters, and unties his bandana and places it beside him. I take the eye drop squeezer from the pouch slung around my waist and drop them into Thorne's eyes. He blinks, then sat up.
"So how does it feel," I ask.
"As it always does." I just nod. We stood there in silence. For a while. Then Thorne spoke. "Why don't you sing for me, Cress?"
I just gasp in surprise, and blush. "Me? Sing? Why?"
"Well, you have a beautiful voice. Why not?" He said that with a one raised eyebrow. I giggle.
I sing the lullaby from my childhood. He listens, a spark of awe twinkling in his eyes. At some point of the song he pulls me into his arms and onto his lap.
We spend the night with me singing and him holding me tight in his arms.
