I couldn't make it stop, no matter how hard I tried to concentrate on anything else, there was always the persistent buzzing clouding around my ears. I tried to drown it out by humming for a while. It wasn't much help but it did distract my mind from going to a far darker place.
There was one tune I took more comfort in, a song Steve had taught me when we were younger. I tried to imagine him, humming it with me. He had a deep voice, so hearing him sing wasn't what you'd think it'd be. His voice was soft, and comforting.
"Took the breath.... from my open mouth.... N-never known how it broke.... me down, I went... in circles s-ssomewhere else." I hummed quietly to myself, letting the words mull over my tongue. ".... Shook the best when- your love was ho- home.... storing up.... on your summer glow..."
"Anna?" I was surprised when Steve's humming turned to words. I thought at least I got to control my near mad thoughts. "Oh my god...."
"Great...." I sighed, my eyes lazily moving around, in front of me was a blurry picture of him. "I'm fucking mad....."
"I'm getting you out of here. Bucky, in here!" Steve called out.
I heard some scuffling, then moments later, Bucky was standing over me as well. The two of them reaching down to unlock the restraints tying me down.
"It's- you're...... not real..." I muttered to myself, trying desperately to block them out.
"Anna, we're real." Bucky released one of my arms, then his hands went to the restraint around my neck.
I could feel his cold fingers graze over my skin. His face was close to mine, and I could see him clearly now. This is real? But how could....
"No!" I shouted in a sudden panic, and tried desperately to move away from their touch.
Both Steve and Bucky gave a shout before jumping back. Both of them had small black marks where my skin had met theirs.
"Don't... don't touch me..... It's not safe." I said breathlessly.
I had both my arms unlocked now, so I could do the rest myself. I reached up breathlessly, and finished removing the restraint Bucky had partially unlocked.
"What.... what happened?" Steve asked hesitantly.
I sat up slowly, groaning at the pain radiating over me. I just had to unlock my ankles. "Where's Will?" I demanded.
"He's fine, the rest of the prisoners are getting him out." Bucky reassured me.
I unlatched the restraints, and made the mistake of trying to stand. I caught myself against the edge of the table just in time. Bucky moved to grab me, but I pulled away from him.
"I'm fine..." I nodded.
"We have to move..." Steve said in a hushed move as a group of footsteps were heard not too far away.
I pushed off the table, taking all my strength into walking on my own. Steve led us through the halls, and Bucky remained close by me, which only made me more nervous. I was careful to stay away just enough so we wouldn't touch by accident.
Loud explosions began to echo through the halls, shaking the entire building. I stumbled into one of the walls for support. I'd almost fallen towards Bucky, and he'd already had his arms extended to catch me.
