His Next Victim

Chapter 3

Cain's POV

We arrived at an old looking garage in about ten minutes. You would have thought that something was chasing her with the way she drove, but no I checked multiple times and there was nothing behind us.

She hopped out of the car and took about ten steps towards the garage before abruptly stopping. Confused I kept walking towards the door. It's just an old beat down garage.

"I wouldn't," Jade said as she raised her hands in the air. What in the hell is wrong with her? Her face was amused, so I knew we weren't in any kind of trouble. I ignored her, wanting to feel on top once more in this partnership we had started.

"I warned you." I heard her say right before I got the breath knocked out of me. I fell to the ground holding my stomach. God, what was that? I looked around and saw a red bean bag lying on the ground about three feet away from me.

"Come one more step, boy, and next time it won't be a toy that knocks you on your ass," a strong voice called from toward the garage. I turned to look at Jade questioningly.

"Oh, don't mind him. He just gets a little grumpy sometimes, but hey I did warn you. I'm just glad he got a riot gun out this time. He made me feel awful last time I came here and got a guy shot."

Amusement sparkled in her eyes, and I didn't know if she was being serious or if the thought of that guy getting shot amused her.

"Okay Carter, you had your fun. We’re coming up there, and you're not going to shoot Wilde. Plus I don't even like him that much. So, you would actually be doing me a favor," she said with a saucy smile.

Grumbling was coming towards the door, and Jade sauntered towards it without stopping. Was it me or was she putting a little more sway into it than usual. A smile spread across my face, at the thought of her trying extra to get my attention. The door opened, and my smile disappeared as soon as the man stepped out of the garage.

For some reason I expected an old man, not this. He was what I would grudgingly call handsome, and by the way Jade's eyes roamed over him I'm guessing she would agree. His whole face lit up and he started walking faster towards Jade. She laughed, running then jumping onto him with her legs wrapped around his waist. He still had to look down at her, but it didn't look like he minded at all.

"Where have you been, honey? It's kinda sad that you only come to me when you need replacements for something. I missed you, you know."

"I missed you to, Carter." she smiled at him and he leaned in to give her what might be a kiss.

I quickly intervened. "Hey, I'm Cain Wilde," I said thrusting my hand in between their faces. He just chuckled before gently placing Jade on the ground.

"Your new boy toy doesn't like to share? I guess I don't blame him."

"Not a boy toy," she stated. "He's what people call a N.S.A. agent."

Carter's eyes turned hard and he gazed toward me. The look he gave me scared me a little, but there was no way I was letting him know that. I kept my expression blank.

"We can hide his body, Jade. I still have that spot. Plus you know Bob won't look too hard for his body if he is on your tail," he said while scanning my body as if he was calculating how big the hole would be.

I could tell by the look on his face that he was completely serious. I just looked at him blankly. Jade started laughing, and a small smile appeared on both of our faces. How could we not smile with a sound like that coming out of her body?
