Phoebe's POV

I made to work at nine on the dot. I walked into the diner and greeted a few regulars before heading to my office in the back. Today's defiantly going to be a quiet day. I made my way through the kitchen towards my small office in the back.

"Hey Carl" I yelled over the sound of sizzling meat and the loud popping of oil.

"Oh, hey there darling, how's it going?" Carl yelled back with a big ol' smile on his face while he chopped some potatoes'.

I couldn't help but smile back at him.

"It's all good Carl." I yelled back again over the loud cooking.

"That's good darling, okay let me let you get to work before we end up chatting away the day away instead of working." He responded with a chuckle.

I couldn't help but return that chuckle because he was telling the truth, once he and I start its hard to finish.

Carl is an old man in his early sixties, his a good six foot with a full head of white hair and the bluest eyes ever, his the actual owner of the diner, but instead of managing the diner or retiring he choose to be the chef on the account that he loves cooking.

Carl's a really good man with the one friendliest smiles and eyes that just scream wisdom and history when you look into them. He promoted me to manager when the previous one quit due to unfortunate circumstances and I had decided to fill in until they got another manager, it was pretty easy because it's pretty similar to the inventory and accounts managing I used to do at my old pack.

Carl saw that I was capable and said I could take the position even though I didn't have the right paperwork for it, but I needed the money so I wasn't complaining; I took the job and now it's been almost a year since I took that job and four since I started working at the diner.

I made my way to my office in the back ready for a day full of counting, stamping, signing and checking. I'm so happy... oh who am I kidding, I know the job pays better but I miss being out on the floor and interacting with the customers, checking up on the locals around town and the latest gossip in town. With a huff I sat down on my small office chair and went to work.

***

Its one o'clock, my lunch break, phew...I've been typing the whole morning, double checking everything is accounted for and making sure to put in the orders for some extra food items.

I was logging off the computer getting ready to take my lunch break and maybe stop by the day-care when Indigo started jumping up and down excitedly in the back of my mind.

"Indi what's happening." I asked her with a small smile of my face at how she's acting up.

"Mate! Mate, he came. His here for us!" Indigo practically screamed in my mind. My smile dropped immediately. No! He can't be here. What is he doing here? Shit!

I ran out my office and kitchen, I stepped out on the main floor and that's when it hit me. The scent of fresh dirt and grass after it rained with a hint of honey and lavender, my knees instantly buckled and I quickly caught myself before I hit the floor. Lucky for me the front entrance is on the other side of the diner so no one can see the kitchen entrance from the front.

I slowly walked to the corner and peeked round it and low and behold my mate was there in all his gorgeous glory, but he wasn't alone, he was with six others. One of them I remember as Xander and the delta and what I presumed is four warriors.

"His in formal wear he must be from one the packs near the town, his not here for us Indigo." I say to a fussy Indigo.

"Screw that. Go to mate! I want mate back Phoebe and I know you do to, don't deny it." She yelled back at me.

"Dammit Indigo I know, but the twins. What will he say? We need to get them somewhere safe while we deal with him. I know that his probably picked up our scent I mean it's all over the diner. He'll know we're here, we need to move now! I promise we'll come back and sort this out. Okay?" I pleaded with her.

"Okay. I trust you. Our pups are our main priority right now." She agreed.

Just when I was about to make a break for the door; I saw that all seven of them were at a standstill looking around for something and talking to one another with worried expressions.

I tuned in my hearing to catch what they were saying..."there's an extremely powerful alpha present..."

Oh bloody fucking hell! It's me. Fuck! I forgot to cover up my aura; well I am in a human town it wasn't like they could feel it or tell that I'm a powerful 'almost alpha', so I never put up the cover too much.

I quickly pulled my aura in and covered it up with one of a normal wolf. I saw them start to move around looking for the wolf that was emanating the aura but they've stopped because I closed off the aura so abruptly. Well it's now or never.

Without another moment's hesitation, I made a break for the front door. I quickly ran past one of the waitresses, a customer and the one warrior that remained by the door.
