Calum fell asleep to Michael's slow, even breaths and to the sound of the low static from the TV.
Everything was watery. Like a puddle. Calum was submerged. He tried to swim up, the murky water seeming to have no top. But when he looked down -- he wasn't a he. He wasn't anything. He was liquid.
Bubbles foamed around him (where he should be, at least), the small air pockets creating a mask over his eyes. The water that submerged him was starting to drain, the surface he now recognized through the bubbles as the sky. It all leaked away before his eyes, trees and sky and miles of rolling hills around him formed in it's wake. Suddenly, the bubbles all burst and he was sitting looking at his two feet. He felt around to make sure that all of his body had come back. Calum let out a sigh of relief when everything seemed to be right, but he almost jumped out of his skin when he heard a voice beside him.
"Hello, Calum. Nice to meet you." His head snapped to the direction, the opposite end of the small wooden bench. He saw the face of the boy in the picture on Michael's nightstand and it clicked. This was Luke.
"You're Luke?" He asked, mildly concerned for his state of mind and how sane he was.
"You saw my picture?"
"Yeah. . . the one on your nightstand. And on the floor of your living room."
"The floor?"
"I guess Michael threw them all after you. . . died." Calum felt awkward. This was Michael's dead boyfriend. Why is he in his dream?"The Christmas one?" Calum shrugged, acknowledging Luke's words, "Fuck. I really liked that picture. Michael looked adorable."
"So. . . like, why are you here? Not to be rude, but this is a little strange."
Luke grinned, shaking his head. He stared at the older boy. "Stranger things have happened, right Calum?"
"I think this knocks anything else out of the park, to be honest. I mean, I was a puddle a minute ago and now I'm talking to you. So not really."
Luke scratched his chin and shrugged. "I see your point."
Calum looked around, the place completely beautiful but totally unrecognizable. He'd never pictured a place so lovely, let alone seen one. Why was he here now?
"Captivating, isn't it? I've always loved this place." Luke looked around, a fond look gracing his features.
"Where are we?"
"May Park."
"Why here?"
"Special to me. And Michael."
Calum raised an eyebrow. Luke just pointed to a thick tree about thirty feet ahead. Calum blinked once and two boys appeared, one with a small quiff and another with white hair. Calum opened his mouth to talk.
"Why are t--"
"Shut up. Just listen." Luke whispered, him watching as closely as Calum.
Calum gazed at the two boys, who after a few minutes and a few words, he recognized them as Michael and Luke. A year or two younger, but still them. He listened to the pair, watching as they sat criss cross in front of each other, their knees touching.
"Michael! I don't want to hear about your date with Charlie. I've heard enough about the prick to last a lifetime."
"He is NOT a prick, Luke! He's sweet and he likes me. You should be happy for me. You're my best friend."
Younger Luke shut his eyes tight and balled his fists, his lungs filling with a burst of courage. "Maybe I don't want to be your best friend."
Young Luke peeked an eye open, seeing a dumbfounded Michael. Michael sputtered. "What? Why? Is it because of Charlie?"
"Maybe I don't want to be your best friend. . ." Luke opened both of his eyes and rubbed his face, eyes boring holes into Michael's, "Because I want to be more?"
Michael's eyes seemed to pop out of his head and Luke ran his hands threw his hair, muttering about how it was a mistake and how he should've kept his stupid mouth shut. He nearly missed Michael's words.
"Kiss me."
It was Luke's turn to be surprised, because what the fuck just happened and why wasn't he kissing Michael.
"W-what?" The blonde stuttered.
The older swallowed the lump his throat and repeated. "Kiss. Me."
Within seconds, Luke's lips were just brushing over Michael's and their chests were pressed flush against one another and then everything felt hot all over. Michael's lips were soft and warm and just as plump as Luke imagined and the kiss was innocent and beautiful and it meant the world to Luke. Past and present tense.
Calum looked at Now Luke and then returned to the boys, to find that they were gone and the tree was alone.
"First kiss. It means everything in a relationship. Sets the tone for the future," Luke stared in awe at the tree, not bothering to look at Calum, "Or sets the stage for the inevitable breakup. Make sure Michael and your first kiss is as good as mine and Michael's was."
When his eyes snapped open and he wasn't numb to the world anymore, Calum had decided that in fact, there was nothing stanger than what just happened.
