Chapter Two: The Calm Before The Storm

"Welcome Ms. Agriche" said the king of lyrienth. "Your majesty" responded Katherine giving a formal curtsy, it is an honor to be here. What kind of business are you here for ?  inquired the king. " I'm here because i need to investigate about our kingdoms combined history." "I also need to talk with Duke Mikaelson about why there are complications going with the business between him and my father "responded Katherine. Katherine had already seen hints of problems going on within the business for years but since her father was the head of the house and his business partner were males they paid no matter to his " little daughter". she remembered in clear annoyance, but made sure to keep her expression calm for being calm meant you could always be one thought ahead of the other.

Note-  When traveling to a distant kingdom you always need to pay respects to the king and queen and state why you are there along with how long you are staying. 

Note- the world they are in is misogynist

      Note-  Katherine belongs to a ducal house of knights, right now she has the title honorary knight as she is not an official one but she knows everything from fighting to wielding a sword  (but no one knows that yet)

"Ah right, it's quite a shame isn't it ?" "To have problems maintaining your title knowing that people that support you are disappearing lately around in your kingdom" remarked the king with what looked like an amused grin. Katherine knew that people in power liked to peck at whatever weakness they might find in another person but she wasn't about to let it go so easily. " I'm sure the royal family has everything under control and are coming up with a plan as we speak " said Katherine with a matter of factly tone that not even she believed. 

"Well then I'll be seeing you " said Katherine as she started walking to exit the doors. "I hope you find the answer you need said the queen." Katherine thanked them both and headed on her way towards the ducal house Mikaelson. As she was riding towards her destination Katherine kept thinking about what the king said and it started bothering her. "it's true that people have been disappearing" Katherine rambled on "yet people refuse to look into it just because there's no evidence or it's a " minor case " she said eyes rolling.

"I'm sure Duke Agriche will be fine" said one of the guards named Noah. "But he doesn't" snapped Katherine. "I know they think they're fine because Elijah works close by guarding the crown prince , but there are three princes and each one effects the way each house holds power." "Each person that has gone missing has something that connects them but it bother's me that I can't figure out what !" " Focus on one thing before you start tackling the other, remember,  you also need to figure what's going on with your father's stocks Noah reminded her." 

Noah had been one of the people guarding Katherine for as long as she could remember as they grew up together. Thank you Katherine chuckled lightly. Before they headed towards Duke Mikaelson Katherine stopped at the royal library in which she picked up a book of laws, culture, and special rules involving the main kingdoms.  She checked it out anonymously because she knew people now and days were too curious to leave people alone.  "Katherine it's been so long" exclaimed Duke Mikaelson when Katherine finally arrived at his estate. 

He embraced her in a hug in which Katherine thought was way too comfortable.  So what's the problem ? he asked. "I hope you've noticed there has been problems between the business involving you and my father" expressed Katherine. Duke Mikaelson stared for a few seconds before bursting out laughing in a way Katherine could've sworn was like the  echo of a devil. He then kept a grin on his face as he asked " what makes you so sure ?"

 "Your father hasn't expressed any concerns about it, so why do you ?" " He was going to ask you today but I figured he was too close to you to make a proper judgement, so instead I'm here." " I hope you don't mind "Katherine remarked which caused the Duke to frown and brought a little joy to Katherine's face. "Of course not" he responded after hesitating for a few seconds. "Good !" Smiled Katherine. Katherine spent a whole 10 hours in there trying to question the Duke which brought to no avail because he kept responding with vague answers or countered with questions of his own. 

Finally after a while Katherine decided she wasn't going to get anything out of the stubborn man, " so how's your brother doing ?" Questioned Duke Mikaelson which baffled Katherine as she hadn't mentioned him to the Duke at all in their conversation. " Fine"  "he's doing good" countered Katherine "why?" " I'm just saying" He answered calmly which concerned Katherine more than if he was mad. "Being a knight of the royal family means having a lot of responsibility right ?"  With having so much responsibility it makes since if he were ...to accidentally make a mistake. "possibly get little greedy after being next to the prince for so long."

 " Be quiet ! " yelled Katherine "you don't know a lick about my brother, he is the most selfless person I know." " Calm down i was just forming mere speculations Katherine. " "I mean your family has a lot at stake, you all need to watch your reputation and yourselves right ?"  replied the Duke in a smile that Katherine was now starting to hate. "Well would you look at the time" exclaimed the Duke pushing Katherine out of the house "about time a lady gets home wouldn't you say ?" Katherine glared at him and decided it was better to go home and view the information there because as stated earlier she isn't getting any help or information here. 

"Did you find the answer you were looking for ?" asked Noah as he offered his hand to Katherine in order for her to mount the carriage but Katherine refused " No, she grumbled it was about as helpful as rubbing salt into a wound." Whenever Katherine was upset she would ride her horse and that is exactly what she did. "  "Not very lady-like" joked Noah mounting on his own horse, "well luckily no one is here to view it right ?" Joked Katherine back as she smiled. 

 Katherine was missing home by now and she was hoping that with the book she has, she might be able to save her family's business and title. As Katherine and the rest of her guards started on their way back she felt something was off and if she had listened to her gut feeling  she might have been able to prevent what happened next.
