Chapter Four:The Time In Between part 1

This chapter will be about what was happening in the kingdom of  Verillia meaning it focuses on Elijah, while Katherine was in lyrienth so that you can be filled in on everything in order to understand chapter Six ^.^

Katherine had just left for lyrienth when my father called me to his office. " Elijah now that your sister is away it's up to you to maintain the work around the mansion since me and your mother are going on a vacation soon" stated Duke Agriche. "Of course father" although Katherine is more suited to this position than me thought Elijah to himself. She has the smarts and the will for it, I don't, but unfortunately our father doesn't trust her enough with the position. "The amount of deals and partnerships we have are lessening by the day, at this rate our house will be close to collapsing just like the rumors say."  Luckily for the Agriche family, Elijah has a high standing as the crown prince's guard, his position allows his family to maintain some of their reputation and also gives him opportunities to look for sponsors. 

Note: as stated in an earlier chapter there are three princes in total , the first is the crown prince Alaric, the second is Duke Aiden who is older but doesn't have the legitimacy for it as he was born out of wedlock however he's really popular, and the third is the youngest prince Kai.

Note- In their world if the family has a male the position of Duke most usually goes to him but the females are also allowed positions of power but only under special circumstances. 

"Elijah what a surprise bumping into you" said viscount Malcom as Elijah was on his way back to the castle. I recently saw your sister a week ago, she looked quite lovely, viscount malcom said with  a slight grin. I always thought he was a strange man thought Elijah but that remark along with the many others he had made throughout the years made him even more certain that he hated him. He punched count Malcom right in the face. "that will be the last time i hear something about my sister escape your mouth he threatened." Count Malcom got up and wiped his face noticing his lip got cut, " you don't know who your messing with Elijah." " well than I'm more than happy to take it up with you, even in court if you're fine with that" countered Elijah back.

Count Malcom got up and started walking off into the opposite direction." You're going to regret that soon bastard" he grumbled to himself. Elijah headed to the back of the castle where there was an entering for guards, he had business but he was concerned with what kind of threat count Malcom was talking about. " Elijah where have you been it's a mess right now" exclaimed Alaric. What do you mean your highness?, there is a mob of people outside protesting about the missing cases said the prince.

We're short on guards right now what with having to protect multiple people !. Elijah was ushered outside having to control the crowd until almost dawn which was when the crowd died, this repeated for a few weeks. It started pouring and thundering now, He entered the castle again and went to converse with Alaric since he had time, how many people have been missing ? He asked. Alaric rose and pointed to a sheet on the far left and said " almost 50 aristocrats, 80 from the middle class, and almost 100 commoners they vary in age" Why haven't you called in more people to track it pleaded Elijah, I've tried but it seems like its my family against me and the rest of the world, replied Alaric.

They don't care unless it directly affects the imperial family or their power, it might seem like they care to everyone else but i know how they really are. They think they're safe just because they're royalty but not even they know who's at hand. Luckily for you your sister is away in lyrienth but what about your parents. It had been three whole weeks since Elijah had talked to his parents or even received a notice or card from his family causing him to panic. He was about to visit them when all of a sudden a man burst open the the doors he was covered in rain and announced that the couple of Agriche has now gone missing as well.

Elijah was in shock, he may not have had a close relationship with them but he still cared about them. The only thing that called him down was knowing his sister might be safe because he cares about her most of all. Something caused the lights of the castle to be shut off and now only candles and a few emergency panel lights lit up the castle. Elijah had to do a quick check of the castle along with a few others while the rest of the guards checked the perimeter. He knew Alaric was safe in the conference/meeting room, and he knew Aiden was in the safety  of his own home as he had been here earlier before he left but he didn't know where Kai was at all.

Elijah quickly changed route towards kai's chambers, where are you going ? Asked one of the guards around him. " I have to do something continue with the check of the castle" Elijah said as he turned the corner, he ran around a bit until he was finally at Kai's door. He saw the door open and Kai was on the floor with a knife in his heart while a hooded figure jumped out the window but not before Elijah noticed he had green eyes. Elijah ran to the window rail in hopes of catching him or getting a visual ID of him but the figure had already vanished.

Elijah scrambled back to the prince, he held the knife hoping to stabilize it, so that Kai wouldn't lose too much blood. Unfortunately for Elijah he had no medical experience and Kai against his best efforts was already dying but before he did, Kai said " be careful it was" but before he could finish his sentence he coughed up blood, a sign he was poisoned. The palace was in chaos as people were panicking and apparently as Elijah later found out quite a few servants were killed varying in job descriptions but back to the present. A maid appeared out of nowhere and screamed seeing Elijah covered in blood, murder weapon in his hand and the youngest prince dead at his feet. It didn't take much for Elijah to know that he was going to be in deep trouble and he also worried about Katherine, because now things will never be the same again.
