Line and I were just making our through the hallways towards dinner, we three kids came flying past us. I say kids, but they looked like other initiates, dauntless born probably.
"Come on you're gonna be late!" The one hollered back at us. I shared a confused glance with line before picking up our pace, trying to get to the cafeteria faster. Turns out we got their just in time, because just as we entered, Max called for the initiates to stand.
"We welcome you!" Max started off his speech
"We welcome each and every one of you as our new batch of initiates. You have chosen the honourable house of the warrior. We protect the city, and the people within it. Do us proud."
At the end of the speech everyone clapped like crazy before lifting the initiates above their heads as part of some sort of initiation ritual.
When everyone calmed down we were able to take our seats and start eating. Line and I sat with Lauren, along with an erudite boy named Cato, a boy from candour named Amin, a member named Christina (who went by Chris) and another dauntless member named Tris who I vaguely remember to be abnegation and transferred to dauntless last year, placing first I believe, I'd my memory serves me correctly.

I was half way through my fully dressed hamburger, listening to Chris tell the story of Tris' reaction to a hamburger last year, when I saw him. He wasn't looking at me, but I would know any part of that person anywhere - his hair, his face, his back, his arms, even his toes. When I saw him walking towards our table I quickly looked down and put my hood up before he could see me. I wanted to surprise him but I also knew not to outright call out to him, knowing the kind of image he kept. When he finally got to our table he sat down beside Lauren.
"Gonna introduce me to the newbies, or should I ask for each of their names separately?" Eric asked Lauren in a kind of mean and demanding tone. I paid it no mind, seeing as I had used colder tones many times before.
"This is Amin, Cato, Liner" Lauren responded, pointing at each person individually, not showing if she was intimidated by Eric's tone.
"And our first jumper-"
"Artemis" I cut in before she could finish, looking up and throwing my hood off in one simultaneous movement. Eric stared at me completely gobsmacked for a few second before regaining his composure.
"Nice to meet you" Eric stated, his voice a little tighter than normal. He stood up and gave our group a curt nod to excuse himself. Before leaving he shot me a look that clearly stated we would be talking later. I knew he saw in my eyes that I understood.
That was when I caught Toby's eyes. He was standing in the corner, leaning against the wall staring at me. When he caught me looking at him, he nodded toward the hallway, so I quickly excused myself before following him. He started walking before I caught up with him, and he lead me through a vast number of hallways to make sure we were alone and wouldn't be overheard. When he finally stopped he turned to look at me, giving me a once over to examine any details he may have missed the last time he saw me, and based on the widening of his eyes it was obvious he didn't look very closely the first time he saw me.
It made sense really, last time he was in too much shock to take time my appearance and this time, I'm in black cropped leather, with a lithe and toned body, full breast, and long silky hair. Big difference from the underfed, weak, flat, ugly girl that was their the last time he saw me. But no matter what differences in my appearance told him, he would ignore all facts of me not being his 'fragile baby sister' until someone screamed it in his ear. Even then he might not believe it. I decided to go with my 'Luna' act as I waited for him to speak. When his eyes finally met mine it looked like his mind was replaying flashbacks of his last memories with me, much like I was doing, before finally getting out-
"You look different" in a nearly cracking voice before we both collapsed in to hug each other. It felt so good, so natural to be in my brothers arms again that I never wanted to let go. Until, of course, my dear brother opened his big mouth and ruined the moment.
"Why did you choose dauntless" he asked me, his voice actually breaking this time.
"Why" he repeated, pulling back to look me in the eyes - which weren't actually that far below his - so I could see just how serious or worried he was. I took a deep breath, stabilizing myself before starting.
"My test told me dauntless, and I know you told me to go somewhere safe, but I figured where was safer than where the test told me to go? I know amity would have been peaceful, but I don't think I could have survived their with all my hate for Marcus just boiling under the surface, you know? And plus, you were here in dauntless and I just wanted, no needed to see you again." I finished my rant, adding a few tears to roll down my face, - normal tears, of course - hoping to be convincing. He sighed, before responding.
"It's not that I'm not glad you're here, it's just that I can't protect you here. You could die or become factionless and I won't be able to do anything about it. I'll try to protect you, but we have to keep the whole sibling thing quiet, or people might think that's why you got in. I'll do everything I can to help you. I promise." Toby said in a soothing voice, as if trying to comfort me, and all I can think is I can wait till he sees me fight.

I was (thankfully) already awake and dressed when Lauren entered the room, banging two metal sticks together to wake everyone up.
"Everyone in the pit in five" she called out before turning and leaving. Everyone groaned before rushing to get ready. I helped Line go faster before we ran to the pit, arriving before everyone else. The dauntless born and the transfers would be trained separately for the first part, and I realized that we couldn't see each other from our current positions. I waited (im)patiently for everyone else to arrive, and when they did, Lauren instructed us on proper punch form before sending us off to the punching bags. I kept with my own style, rather than the one we were being taught, seeing as it was far superior. There's nothing with the one Lauren taught us, it's just basic and could be much more efficient.
After a while she moved us on to proper kicking form, and once we had that down, alternating between punches and kicks, to practice hitting different different parts of opponents, or people of different height.

After we had all 'mastered' the punches and kicks, it was time for lunch, and we all raced down their so we could eat, digest, and get back to the pit for training before we were late.  It was a good thing me and Line eat quickly, because as soon as we got back we had to go on an hour run through and around the compound, and it you stopped, you were faction-less. Only one kid from candour got eliminated.

The next day wasn't much better. We had another run, with the same rules, before doing some community service/physical labour by moving heavy bags of something into train cars. Somehow, through all this torture, I was loving it!

The next week passed in a similar fashion. We'd run and workout in the day to build strength and stamina, and we'd work on our fighting technique and weapons handling (with me running off to folk every night to chill, train and sleep) Before the day I had been waiting for finally came.

(A/N Sorry for the short and late chapter. Just thought I'd post what I had as I wouldn't keep you waiting any longer. Hopefully I'll have the next chapter up soon. )

Love it? Hate it? Let me know in the comments below.

Your hybrid,
Hayden
