Part Two: To Touch My Hand

Something gave you the nerve to touch my hand

When Klaus Mikaelson watched Elena Gilbert leaving the ball with quickened steps and tears beaming in her eyes, he knew what she did was honorable. At least that was what he thought, because in the end she saved his life, his family's life.

However, deep down somewhere inside of him, he knew what Elena did was unacceptable to her friends. He knew what was waiting her, constant lies, always looking after her shoulder. 

Like Mikael haunted you, Esther's fear will haunt her too

And it was because of him, and his family, but mostly because of him. He had a curse to break and his only way was killing her, yet she was still helping him, even after she had found dead from his hands once.

He wanted to follow her, making sure she was alright or comforting her, but he didn't. He just stood there not knowing what to do or what to say. He closed his eyes; images of Elena smiling, talking, walking and finally drinking his blood rushed into his mind.

He groaned with the feeling, he wanted her. He wanted her close to himself, he wanted to be with her. It was a foolish dream to have, she might have saved his life but she would never be with someone like him.

As she left the mansion, with her hands at her heart, she couldn't find herself to go to one place she once called home, she couldn't do this to her family. She could not tell Alaric that she saved the man who killed his girlfriend.

Such a great disappointment you are

She wished she had never attended the ball at the first place. Maybe Damon was right, maybe she shouldn't have seen Esther.

She found herself in the middle of the Wickery Bridge. A lot changed at that bridge, more should have changed. She was ready to die, she should have died at this bridge. With her parents, peacefully, not knowing anything about vampires, doppelgängers, hybrids or witches.

Her life should have been this, seventeen years, normal teenager. Then she didn't have to get killed in a maniac vampire's ritual or put everyone in danger.

You saved that maniac vampire/hybrid

Why did she save him? Because this was who she was. Damon killed Jeremy and she had forgiven him, besides Damon had no acceptable morals. Klaus was cursed, he was consumed by the curse.

Then it accrued to her, they were same in many ways. She didn't choose to born as the doppelgänger and he didn't choose to born as a werewolf. They were both paying the prices of things they had nothing to do with.

Back in mansion, Klaus walked back to the ballroom with quick steps. Lucky him, Finn was dancing with a lovely lady along with Elijah and he looked extremely distracted.

Rebekah and Kol were talking about breaking mother's rules and killing someone. He really didn't have time for this. Ball was absolutely boring but he did not want to spice things up, at least for once, he needed the appreciated calmness.

He grabbed both of their arms, harshly, and dragged them out of the ballroom knowing this would captured Elijah's attention. He was right, as they entered the library, Elijah walked in with them.
