It was silent in the dimmed room. I sat across from her playing with the rubiks cube. It's a norm. For me to play with it and everytime I solve it that's when my session will begin. It's an exercise testing my knowledge, patience and technique of easily getting around a difficult situation that someone in this world purposely made to confuse people. It's like my life. I had nothing to do with what's happening however I'm in the situation and I have to find a better coping mechanism to solve this problem. It's complex in many different variations.
"Good" she said, "that's was 7 minutes exact you broke your last weeks record by 10 seconds"
I placed it on the desk that separated the both of us.
"So how do you feel about beating your record?"
"Uh I really don't know it's not where I want it to be but I think I found the trick to it"
"Found? Or you created a method"
"What do you mean?"
She picked up the cube, "you see there's no pattern or equation to solve this. Each color each turn has a purpose. These colors define a side of this cube. The cube has layers jasmine. Each time you solve it or must I say complete this task, you break a pattern with your own method. You see I can solve it but can you solve it the way I do?"
"Ye-"
"No." She interrupted, "because I created a standard for myself to solve it. Each time I watch you solve this you improve however you find an easier way around it. Your brain and knowledge is enhancing in its own way so no I can not teach you to solve it my way because it will just interfere with you natural response to solving this yourself"
"Makes sense"
"So tell me. How can you relate this to something previously in your life"
"Uh well it was this one time I had to finish a test and I only had 5 minutes left with 40 questions and I didn't know the answers to the questions. So I turned the test to the backside and started working from the back to the front"
"And did you finish?"
"Yes I missed one question"
"Great. Why did you work from the last problem to the first"
"Because the answers was in the back. Um the questions was easier like question 30 would relate to question 36 or it will give me the opportunity to reconnect to notes I had in class due to me knowing 36 was right since there was so many to pick from on question 30"
"Which type of test was it?"
"Social studies"
"Great do you love history"
"Yes, but I also love math"
"Complex problems made for complex people like this cube I have here" she spoke sitting it back down on the desk
"Yes ma'am"
"Do you think your life is equal to this cube or the test you took?"
"Um it's a test not my life"
"Correct but you worked from problem 40 to problem 1. Sweet heart the test was so easy at the beginning you started questioning yourself and went to the back of the test looking for answers"
I thought about what she said
"When you started to look for answers in your life who did you go to"
"My birth giver"
She nodded her head, "and you knew the truth just wanted an explanation. Do u consider that the beginning or the end to all your problems?"
