"venti, you fucking suck-", the woman hissed but the ravenette was quick to respond with a stupid smile: "n/n, i'm gay for a reason." everyone looked at them in a little shock and kaeya was this close to explode with loud laughter while zhongli mentally prepared himself to grab both of them at their collar to yeet them into different rooms.

"yeah, well, you know what? you can suck on my imaginary dick then", she responded snippy, arms crossed and lips pressed together when she saw bennett plainly shaking his head behind his friend. she breathed out of her nose in annoyance before turning away from her friends and disappearing into barbara's kitchen.

"good thing xiao isn't here yet", diluc dryly commented at venti's behavior and went(i (haha i'm so funny- sorry)) after his best friend. ajax was quick to react too and left kaeya, zhongli, bennett and barbara alone in the living room because handling y/n was easier for him than handling a (drunkard) musician with mood swings - and zhongli knew them better anyway, the russian wouldn't be that helpful.

"you shouldn't have mocked her that much, venti", zhongli sighed and placed one of his hands on the shoulder of the producer.

"yup, she's still very upset about the situation. and she misses hu tao", barbara added and tried to smile assuringly at her best friend.

"she's a bitch, she shouldn't miss her", they just murmured, not quite understanding how she could ever forgive hu tao's actions.

"she must have had her reasons, no?", the brunette said and kaeya immediately noticed that he must know something everyone didn't.

"you two do get quite funny arguing, quite a shame you don't do it often though", the blue-haired grinned. his chin found it's place in his palm and barbara's hand found it's place at the back of his head. very forcefully.

"ouch-"

"just apologize to her unless you want your food poisoned or something...", the young man with the white hair smiled and showed them a thumbs up. venti just sighed and nodded, the corner their lips moving so slightly upwards.

diluc, in the kitchen, comforted the woman with his warm hand at her back and let ajax talk - the ginger was better at sweet-talking so he just kept moving his arm in circles.

"ya know how they are, just don't take them seriously", this was the fourth version of the same sentence in the last two minutes and diluc swore he would vomit every second now but it seemed to work on her (surprisingly?), "if ya want us to punish them, just don't let them drink today, hm?" diluc squinted his eyes at that a little: "or tell xiao, he will take care of it."

"nah, nah, we don't want a dead body at new year, hm, diluc laoye?", ajax laughed amused and looked him directly in the eyes.

"make it two", the red-head grinned while lifting his chin a little - his expression told ajax' russian mafia-insticts to run for his life though he still managed to keep his composure and mouth shut. this was connected to his third rule: never, ever, make diluc mad; especially when it was about kaeya or y/n, preferably also not klee even if he seems to dislike that walking ball of sunshine down to his roots.

"okay you two, calm down. since you're here, you will now help me cook", y/n ordered before one of them would commit arson or amok (or both, you'll never know).

when the food was ready to be served, xiao and razor finally arrived and greeted everyone in the big apartment.

"jean ayi and klee meimei?", razor curiously asked barbara when the sat down at the dining table.

"ah, they're celebrating with the adults this year. lisa, albedo, baizhu and the others", she explained to the shy boy. he just nodded to show her he understood.

"babe, did you get the sauce i mixed?", xiao asked as y/n sat down the last serving of dumplings, looking really concentrated because she didn't wanted to lose her balance or accidentally letting the plate slip out of her grasp - it happened a few times already.

"oh, sorry, i knew i forgot something-"

"it's fine, i'll get it", the ravenette quickly interrupted her rambling.

soon after that everyone finally sat at the table, glasses of water and mugs with tea softly clashed at each other as everyone celebrated the new year.

in our province back in china, it's traditional to eat dumplings at this day - it varies from location to location tho, quite interesting

"laoye" means 'grandpa' (in the chinese dub, paimon calls him that and it's weird because the english sub keeps translating it as 'master' or 'mister'??)
"ayi" means 'aunt(ie)'
"meimei" means 'little sister'
we have different terms for every family member, kinda? like, if you had two brothers, a young and an older one, you would call the yunger "didi" and the older "gege" (i'ma just write them w/o the macron's, just doing this to give y'all a general idea)
same goes for the grandparents; you wouldn't call the dad of your dad "laoye", he would be just "yeye" (also depends on the province/region you're in)
