CHAPTER FOUR : FRATERNIZING

|

you couldn't sleep.

magne was such a good friend. you wanted more time with her, just being stupid and silly.

if you were more powerful, maybe you would've been able to heal her.

you groaned and let your head fall into your hands. fuckfuckfuck. you were useless back there. you scolded yourself hastily.

"what are you still doing here, go to bed already." shigaraki said as he walked into the living room, hunched over and hands in pockets. he wished kurogiri was here. then he'd get a good drink to swallow down.

you didn't want him to get mad at you again. "...okay." you stood shakily, walking over to where toga slept. halfway there, magne flashed in your mind again.

"shit," you cursed, your knees buckling. your hand pressed against the wall to steady you. the urge to heal was taking you over. you knew magne was gone, yet in more ways than one, there was no closure. she was in a room, a blanket draped over her body—what remained of it anyway.. these feelings would plague you without any hope for resolution.

"what's up with you?" he asked harshly. you just shrunk into yourself, waiting in agony as this wave of grief washed over you.

"...nothing." you breathed in deeply, stabilizing your voice. "i'm going to bed now. good night." even though you intended to walk off, you couldn't bring yourself to move away from your first friend and leave her behind forever. your healing spirals came to life without your knowing, searching for something, someone to busy itself with.

the warm glow emanating around your figure made shigaraki squint, like the brightness on his phone shot up all of a sudden. he sighed as he averted his gaze.

a few weeks ago ...

"healers were always prone to take losses harder than the resta y'all. it's a wonder that anyone with healing powers would go over to the villains' side in the first place." giran explained, lighting his new stick. "this particular one i have my eye on? her power had some side effects."

"on the person she's healing?" shigaraki had asked.

"no, more so on herself."

shigaraki scrunched up his face. "like what?"

"eh, it's hard to explain, honestly." giran puffed a breath of smoke. "i'm just saying if you're willing to take her on, you're gonna have to deal with how hard she is on herself and how crazy she gets around injuries and people in need of her quirk. that could slow you down or get annoying pretty fast."

shigaraki had rolled his eyes. it shouldn't be as bad as giran was suggesting. the dealer had a flair for dramatics, anyway.

now he understood what giran was talking about.

"look." shigaraki walked over and stooped in front of your body, now curled up in a squat near the floor. "i'll make that overhaul bastard pay for what he did to magne and for what he did to compress. their sacrifices won't be overlooked."

"i want to do something too." you said, feeling emboldened.

he raised an eyebrow, amused. "oh? and what could a disobedient, weak little healer like yourself do against someone like him?"

"shut up." you hissed through clenched teeth, your eyebrows fashioned in an acute glare. despite your front, the reality was coming down on you. he was right- you had no fighting prowess or anything resembling real power.

"what did i say about watching how you speak to me?" he barked, his red eyes devoid of light. even though he was kneeling, he still towered over you.

you lifted your head and stared him down, face-to-face and nose-to-nose. you huffed and turned your head away from him, angry with overhaul, yourself, and with him especially. your breathing picked up—you had more hatred than you knew what to do with.

"you know how to fight?" you asked, meeting his eyes briefly.

he rolled his eyes. "of course i do. who do you think i-"

"teach me." you said.

"no." shigaraki said immediately, standing up. you seemed to be in a better mood, he told himself. he wasn't about to entertain your musings any longer than he had to. he started to walk away.

"you have to."

"i dont have to do anything." he snarled, irritated by how comfortable you were around him. he was your boss. how many times would it take for you to understand?

"please, shigaraki." you begged. you rose your feet, trailing behind him. "if i'm to be of better use to you, don't you think it'd be good to invest in my improvement?"

shigaraki clenched his fists in his pockets. "you don't know when to quit, do you? get spinner or toga to help you."

"no, i want to learn from the best and, well... you're the leader, aren't you?" you said firmly.

shigaraki paused, the small sliver of indirect praise going straight to his ego and heart.

"teach me, i wanna kick overhaul's flat ass the next time i see him." you seethed. shigaraki smiled a bit at that last comment.

"you're so annoying." shigaraki tsked. "i'll see how bad you are tomorrow."

you expected him to say no so when he agreed you almost jumped for joy. suppressing the urge, you nodded tamely and retreated to your cot. as much as you couldn't bear being alone tonight, you tried your hardest to sleep.
