CHAPTER THIRTY EIGHT : FUTURE QUEEN
|
it took a lot out of shigaraki to look... decent for once. he couldn't even remember a time where he didn't look like a guy on crack, if there even was a time in the first place. he used to be fine with the ratty long-sleeve and slacks but now he had more ego than he knew what to do with.
him? the boy left to die alone? the boy humanity itself abandoned? that one? the one that is now the commander of an army of some-thousands, dangerously powerful, and made all resistance bow down to him in the span of a couple days? and he got a girl on top of all of it? he felt like he was floating on air-it was almost too good to be true but fuck it, he was going to live this dream until it ended.
he wanted to look good, wanted to feel good, wanted to be good-by that, meaning the best. and standing next to you, he felt all of that and more.
you were doing final adjustments in the mirror, not paying any mind to tomura as he paced behind you. when you were officially called to the ceremony, though, you were surprised when tomura rested a ringed hand on your waist, giving your hip a firm squeeze before it moved to the small of your back.
"ready?" he asked in a low voice and you have never nodded so enthusiastically. he guided you though the maze of the hideout until you were backstage. you were even more taken aback when he dipped to press a small kiss to your shoulder.
"wow, commander. you're pretty bold today." you commented, trying to make your flustered state less obvious. this version of shigaraki was still new to you, and you were still trying to figure him out.
"ah-ah-king." he corrected with a childish lilt to his voice.
"oh, my mistake." you giggled and brushed some hair out of his eyes only to smile wider when he chased the warmth of your hand.
he huffed, looking away. "yeah... get used to it fast." you exhaled lightly, smiling as you fitted father onto his face and dusting off his suit. before being called to the stage, he wanted to hear you say "i love you" again, taking comfort in your embrace before he marched into the spotlight.
it amazed you how he went from being your baby to being your boss in a split second. the duality shocked you from time to time-like you said, you were still getting used to him. you heard the cheers and your heart swelled with pride and happiness because this is what he wanted and just scratching the surface of what he deserved.
"what a fucking dork." dabi snorted as redestro blabbed. "a couple wins and he thinks he's a star."
you shoved into him playfully, "he is, though?"
"you're biased, queen." he rolled his eyes as he mocked your unspoken title.
you gasped and pinched him on his staples, making him flinch. "you fucking bastard, just accept that tomura is doing amazing and move on."
"i'll do it for him!" toga smirked mischievously. "but it shouldn't be hard for him, considering he was just bragging about tomura to a bird boy."
"i saw that too!" twice testified, nodding. one glare from dabi instantly turned a nod into a shake and soon he was saying, "nope, never happened, not at all."
spinner sighed. his arms were crossed, like usual. "i must admit that shigaraki is doing...pretty well."
"you would be right," you huffed. "looks like you're outnumbered dabi. but not really since you're just as happy we're all here."
dabi just shook his head and before you knew it, you were being called out onto the stage. toga squealed as she rushed out to the audience and you yourself felt giddy as you left the comfort of the curtains.
'the paranormal liberation front' was the name tomura picked for his new army. you stood at his right, toga gripping your hand and shaking it excitedly.
even over the cheers and redestro's praises, you still heard tomura call your name. your head whipped to look at him. he was standing up, sidestepping his throne and gesturing for you take your seat.
you widened your eyes, keeping the awkward smile on your face. what are you doing? you expressed.
he insisted and before you knew it, he was pulling you onto his throne and sitting you on it. you glanced up at him, confused and anxious from being put on the spot. you saw his eyes crease as if he was smiling, and your fears lessened.
"when i'm undergoing my upgrade," he announced, and his red eyes glinted with amusement through father's fingers. "you'll answer to her."
you gaped at him before you quickly controlled your expression. you grinned out into the crowd as the cheers grew louder once again but internally you were screaming what the fuck?! you were no leader. you could not fill shigaraki's absence while he was out of commission. give that responsibility to spinner or something, you whined internally.
you breathed out, all background noise drowned out and replaced with tomura as he leaned over to your ear. "surprise."
"you're gonna get a surprise." you muttered under your breath.
"relax," he chuckled. "we're gonna conquer the world together."
you exhaled shakily with a roll of your eyes. he offered his hand and you glanced at him before slotting your fingers with his. he squeezed your hand as if you would dust away—you didn't.
here he was in power, fulfilling his prophecy, the command to destroy hero society resting on his tongue. yet he stared at you as if you made the sun rise every single day.
you didn't expect things to be smooth-sailing after this and you didn't want it to be, either. tomura was never consistent. for you, that was more than enough. he was more than enough and you silently vowed to remind him of that, every single day until you died.
unbeknownst to you, he made the exact same promise. as he focused on you, smiling to his new army, he decided for the billionth time since he met you that he liked seeing you happy. and he would die before he let anyone else make you more happy than he did.
after all, you were the queen to his king.
