"Now as you know, we've been assigned Agent Dunbar's case. We need to finalise our plan to do a stake out, outside the club where his mission took place. Once we've studied the bouncers and the sort of people who enter we will be able to infiltrate the club, undercover. I figure we'll get enough information by the end of tonight which means we can go undercover tomorrow."
"So I have to spend a whole evening with you?" Lucas complained, He'd rather spend the night with a random girl or fight some random dickheads from the other organisation. Those moments were his favourite, he was able to lose himself into the fight, he knew it was wrong, that hurting people made him happy, but in his defense they were bad people.
"No one ever has to do anything, it's up to you whether you decide to make the right choice for you or the right choice for others."
"You always talk like you're reading from a book, lighten up buttercup, all that angst makes you unattractive. I better not stay behind, someone has to make sure you don't get killed."
"If I die it will because I let someone kill me in order to protect others, not because I didn't have enough skills or bravery." Opal snapped, annoyed he'd assume she was too weak to protect herself. She thought after all this time he knew her better, but then again it had been such a long time since they could even bare to be in the same room as each other.
"You don't need to be so chivalrous all the time, the organisation isn't watching you constantly." He could tell she assumed that he was coming because he thought she couldn't look after herself, but really, even if he didn't want to admit it, he just couldn't bare the thought of it happening again. The last time he let someone go out alone it resulted in Opal breaking his heart, and something so much worse.
"Not everyone has hidden agendas."
"Not everyone is good enough at concealing emotions that's why."
"You'd have to have emotions for that."
"But I do have emotions, you know that more than anyone Opal, after all you were the one who broke my heart." Lucas laughed humorously, in an attempt to hide the pain that tugged at his heart.
"Well you broke mine first so I'd call us even."
"I see you haven't lost your unique charm."
"It would take more than a few snide comments from Lucas Easton to take away my charm." Opal smirked at him, not backing down.
"Glad to hear it, it's what makes you so tempting, I'd hate to ruin that."
"And yet you already have." At this Opal stepped further away from him, trying to create some distance so she didn't punch the cockiness out of him.
"Right lets get down to business."
"I like the sound of that."
"The place he was last seen was at the spotlight club. Across from there is an apartment block with an accessible roof, one will be stationed at. We will watch from there for the evening. now go and get ready, I'll see you in an hour."
"Well I guess I'll see you later then."
---------------------------------------------------------
"What are you wearing?" Opal's eyes scanned over his outfit, Lucas was wearing bright blue jeans and a white t-shirt. They were currently standing in the lobby of the agency building, where they planned to meet up.
"What's wrong now?" Lucas huffed, clearly still pissed off from earlier.
"You look like a douchebag for one, and two, that is the most inconspicuous outfit I've ever seen, this is a lookout not a frat party."
"I have gotten many women dressed like this and they never seemed to complain, but to shut you up I'll go change."
''Wear something black and comfortable, this could be a long night and we don't need to stand out." Opal scolded, shooing him away.
"What no, thank you?" Lucas exclaimed dramatically, clutching a hand to his chest in fake hurt as he did so.
Opal had laughed, something she rarely did. All she could think of was how much this felt like the old times, too much so. She was happier once, a long while ago, when her family was intact, her boyfriend was by her side and her whole world felt complete. She hated remembering those times, so as usual she took the easy way out and shut him out, shut the happiness out.
"Shut up Easton, this is a time sensitive mission." Opal recollected herself, putting on a hard face.
Lucas could tell what she was doing, just as he did every time before and as much as he didn't want to, just like he used to, he cared. He had been happy once too, he didn't have the same family life that Opal had once had and he didn't have a whole lot of friends but at least he had her. Although, he wouldn't admit it, he too had closed himself up to the world, pretending he didn't care for her or anyone but himself, but without Opal that wouldn't ever change.
"Do me a favour?" And yet even though he knew this was her defense mechanism he didn't really care that much anymore, or at least he didn't want to.
"What now?" Opal huffed at him, already wanting to hit him.
"Get that stick out your arse before we leave, I don't want to be stuck dealing with your sour attitude."
"Sour, really?"
"I could have gone with bitchy but I decided to be nice." Lucas smiled at her deviously, reaching out to tap her shoulder.
For a second, the sides of Opal's mouth twitched up slightly, a smile at his idiocy forcing its way up. As soon as it came it disappeared, smile turning back into the flat line it was before.
"Yeah, yeah just hurry up and change."
---------------------------------------------------------
"Right now you don't look like a pretentious dick let's go." Opal began walking towards the exit that was stationed at the front of the lobby.
"Are we taking an agency car or are you going to kill me with your driving." Lucas questioned as he followed her out.
"Im taking this, you can drive yourself." Opal replied, gesturing towards her sleek black motorcycle.
"You drive that thing." Lucas scoffed, putting an emphasis on you, clearly surprised someone like Opal was driving it.
"God don't tell me you're sexist too." Opal rolled her eyes as she threw her leg over the seat of her motorcycle, sitting down.
"I know plenty of girls who ride motorcycles i just didn't expect you to."
"Right well I'm leaving, see you there." Opal started up the bike, getting ready to leave.
"Actually wait here one second." Lucas demanded, walking quickly back into the lobby.
After a minute he walked out holding something that Opal couldn't quite work out until something was rather harshly slammed down onto his head. He had gotten her an agency supplied helmet.
"Can't have you dying on the way there, then I wont get to witness your clumsy arse trip off the roof."
Before Opal could offer a reply he was already jumping into the car, speeding off to the apartment building.
