Soft clicks rang out through the hallway as Opal Carson strutted down the deserted halls. By now, silence had completely consumed the institute, few remained awake at this late hour, those who were, off on an assignment, most likely a night raid or assassination. The night was the best time to get a job done, no one expects it.
Opal's mind was consumed with worry, she couldn't think of a plausible reason for her required immediate attendance at the academy without something being wrong. The only other time she had been called in this late was when the elitistas had infiltrated the weaponry.
Now, she found herself standing outside her directors office, too scared to even knock on the door. Opal knew that as someone who had killed a person with her bare hands , she shouldn't feel this way, but still she remained there terrified of the news waiting for her on the other side of the door. Putting all her worries aside , Opal softly knocked on the door. After hearing a quick 'come in' she entered the room.
"I got your emergency alert Miss." Opal's voice came out fragile and frightened, She didn't think she had ever heard herself sound so vulnerable and she hated it.
"Thank you for getting here so promptly Agent Carson, please take a seat." Opal quickly moved into the chair Director Peterson had gestured to, desperate to hear what was going on.
"Try not to worry too much, matters will be discussed shortly we are just waiting on Agent Easton."
No. No. This couldn't be happening. Not him , anyone but him.
"Agent Easton? With all due respect ma'am, you know I prefer to work alone, that is assuming this is about an assignment." Opal was what people consider a lone wolf, she had never worked with another agent before , and if now had to be her first joint mission she did not want it to be with him.
"I'm well aware of your issues with Agent Easton , Miss Carson but this issue is far more drastic than your childish competition." If you knew Opal, you knew this was about more than their petty competition, he had done something far worse to her than beat her a few times.
"I see someone decided to come dressed for a party." His presence startled Opal , she had been too caught up in her thoughts to even noticed him enter the room.
"Come on now Lukie Pookie, let's not pretend that I don't still look better than you." Opal teased him, knowing he hated that nickname.
"You know I just love it when you call me that, darling." Lucas raised his hand to his heart in mock appreciation. At this, Opal rose out of her seat all about ready to attack him.
"Agents , please be civil this is a work related matter." If it wasn't for her superior she was sure she would have punched that disgusting smirk off his pretty face. Opal could admit that he was in fact pretty, annoyingly so, her only solace was the knowledge that he had an empty heart and arrogant demeanour to accompany his good looks.
"As I'm sure you're aware a few of our agents have been missing from training recently, after through investigation these absences have been declared as kidnappings. It is your jobs to change that, you will be provided full clearance for our weaponry and will be provided anything which will aid you in your investigation. You are both our best agents, I trust you'll be able to work together in such a circumstance."
"You're making me be partners with her?" Lucas laughed cruelly, like the thought of Opal being anything but impractical was impossible, gesturing wildly at her for good measure.
"Yeah, what about it?" Opal jerked her foot out violently kicking him on the back of his knee, causing him to collapse to the floor.
"Aw that almost looked like it hurt, but it couldn't have right? Because I'm just little old me." She pouted at him mockingly before walking away from him.
"Agent Carson, you weren't dismissed." Direct Peterson let out a sigh, clearly frustrated with the two. Upon hearing her superior upset Opal quickly turned back around, she hadn't meant to disrespect her.
"I'm really sorry Director Peterson, I didn't meant to upset you, he just really pisses me off."
"Language Carson, and it's quite alright let me finish up and you can be on your way."
"Yes sir, Captain Rogers." Opal mock saluted, a small chuckle escaping her.
"I'm not even going to pretend to understand that."
"Okay listen here Easton, I'm not exactly thrilled about it either but those agents are our friends and I'm willingly to do whatever it's takes to get them back. Even if that means I have to work with you." Opal emphasised the word 'you' to show her clear disgust.
"I guess if it means I can help out other agents, I'll work with her, but just so we are clear I could've done this alone." Lucas often bragged about how special he thinks he is, Opal obviously disagreed.
"Right shall we continue now?" Before letting either answer she continued, "the mission statements with all information should arrive in your rooms tomorrow morning, now I've got the clothes you'll need for the mission sent up so you might want to begin unpacking."
"Not to sound rude but our what nows?" Opal was both confused and angry, there was no way she was staying here, not near him.
"Here's something I've never said before, I agree with Opal, what the hell is happening?" Lucas sounded equally as angry at the situation, which for some odd reason made Opal's Herat ache, just a little.
"Your rooms Agents, did I stutter?"
"No mam, I just don't understand why we have to stay here, we aren't 16 anymore." Every agent is trained at the Academy from the ages twelve to sixteen, after that they are allowed to move out and continue missions, it was not heard of to have older agents stay here, this only caused Opal's worry to increase.
"Surely you didn't expect that with a mission like this we could afford time wasted on travel? Now get off to your rooms and stop moping, both are located in the east wing, first floor." The Directer raised her hands in a shooing motion, ushering for them to leave.
                              Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.
                              Opal was fucked.
