Chapter 16

It was currently the night after Opal's meeting with Director Peterson. Both Opal and Lucas had been called into her office regarding case information. The two agents were still mad at each other, immense tension filling the air.

"Agent Carson, Agent Easton, nice to see you together again."  Director Peterson smiled tightly at the two as she entered the room with files bunched in her arms.

"Thank you ma'am."

"You'll be happy to know that using your information we were able to find the apartment, I want you two to devise a plan."

"I think the best course of action is for me to go undercover as her neighbour. I already sort of know her and she wouldn't think much of me moving in since she was the one who told me the view was great. I'll just say I looked for apartments there because she described it so beautifully. That is with your permission of course." Opal explained, as convincingly as possible. She was trying hard to get her boss on board.

"I think that's a good idea agent. That is of course, she doesn't know who you really are. I assumed she found on when you were taken at the club."

"No she's completely oblivious, it was just some lower level agents who knew us."

"Very well."

"Absolutely not." Lucas suddenly spoke up, tone demanding and forceful.

"Why not?" Opal turned to face him, sneer etched across her face.

"She's not doing that alone. Not only is this my mission too, but she'll get killed and I'll be stuck with a worse agent than her. Like Noah or something." Lucas completely ignored Opal, taking to Peterson instead.

"If you're really concerned and you want to participate I have no objections, you two can pose as a couple, she already thinks you two are together so it'll work." The older women sighed at the two's childish behaviour.

"But ma'am-"

"No buts agent, you listen to me about all parts of the mission or you're taken off remember?" Her tone was harsh and irritated, clearly she had, had enough.

"I'm sorry Director Peterson."

"Great, so it's settled, you'll go undercover as fiancé's."

"Fiancé's!" Lucas shouted, jumping up in his chair.

"Watch your tone."

"Sorry." Lucas muttered like a scolded toddler, hunching back down in his chair.

"Now go get prepared, pack stuff. Tomorrow when you arrive I'll send a moving team to bring over furniture and necessities. You'll find the address in your phones."

"Thank you." Opal smiled politely before getting up and leaving as fast as possible. She just wanted to get away from him as long as possible

"To what do I owe this pleasure?" Alex smiled at his friend as she strutted towards his cell.

"I just thought I'd come visit my friend. Whats wrong with that?" Opal smiled at his innocently, bagging her eyelashes for emphasis.

"Nothing, if you were telling the truth. But clearly something is up so why don't you just spill." Alex laughed at Opal's attempt to act innocent.

"Well if you insist." Opal paused, took a deep breath and added. "Director Peterson is making me go undercover with Lucas."

"That's not so bad in hindsight. You can just ignore him and do your thing." He reasoned, trying to make her feel better.

"It's as fiancé's."

"Oh that is bad." Alex scrunched up his face, visibly showing how bad the situation was.

"Yeah."

"Does Noah know?"

"Not yet." Opal sighed, not ready to have that conversation at all.

"God this is gonna kill him."

"I really wish he'd never of fallen for me, I hate hurting him."

"You and me both." He laughed sardonically, but Opal could tell it really affected him though.

"How's things with you two?"

"Better. He's still confused about his feelings for you, I don't think he's ready to start getting them for me." His voice sounded quieter than usual, clearly he was trying to remain composed despite the pain it caused him.

"He'll get over it, I hope. I can tell he likes you, it's just hard for him, he doesn't like change."

"Let's hope you're right. I'm already starting to like our conversations and that's a slippery slope."

"You can just say you have feelings, you know, it's not criminal." Opal chuckled at his unwillingness to admit his feelings.

"I don't do feelings sweetheart."

"Sure you don't."

"Well I have to go back and get some shut eye. See you later Alex."

"I'll be here. As always."

Opal chuckled at his dramatic behaviour before sauntering away. It was already later than she was used to, she just wanted to go to bed and forget about tomorrow.

Opal woke up earlier than usual, she wanted to get as prepared as much as possible. After showering and getting dressed, she got her breakfast alone, she wasn't ready to tell Noah just yet. While she was there she saw Matt for the first time in a while. As usual he flirted with her, and she dismissed him as quickly and secretly as possible, trying not to hurt his feelings. Being already packed, and having tripled checked she had everything, all she needed was to tell Noah and have a discussion with Lucas.

Grabbing her duffel bag of clothes and personal items she made her way to Noah's room. He had chosen to stay at the academy, unlike Opal he enjoyed company over isolation.

"You awake sleepyhead?" Opal whispered as she knocked on his door.

"I wasn't till now." Noah's gruff, slightly irritated voice came from  behind the door.

"Sorry." She winced slightly, feeling bad she had woken him up.

"What's with the duffel bag?" Noah asked as he swung open the door, clad in pyjamas.

"I'm leaving for a while. I have to go uncover at an apartment in Brooklyn."

"What? Why am I only learning about this now?"

"I only found out last night and was worried about how you'd react." Opal choose her words carefully, trying not to hurt his feelings.

"I'm supposed to be your best friend you can tell me this stuff."

"You're right, I'm sorry, next time, okay?"

"Okay well give me a hug then." He smiled at her brightly before attacking her in a hug.

"I'll miss you."

"You too."

I'm so sorry I haven't updated! I've had so many mini exams recently to replace my GCSES. I've been so stressed and just constantly revising so I haven't had time. I'll try to update as much as possible before school ends but it won't be as often. I finish in 22 days though so back to schedule soon :)
