I can't breathe

TW! Anxiety attack!

Y/n's POV

It's been over two weeks since the accident and they're finally letting me leave. I'm on bed rest for the next while because I suffered a serious concussion but apart from that I'm okay.

Steve and I are in the elevator, heading up to the apartment. Things are great between us, he's visited me every day since I was in hospital, I couldn't be happier.

"You ready to head back to these morons?" Steve jokes, letting out a laugh at his own joke. He's really not that funny but you can't help but smile when he laughs.

"If I've got you I'm sure I'll survive" I say and hold his hand.

The elevator doors open and everyone is there waiting for me. Someone's hung up a banner saying "Welcome home Y/n!" How sweet.

"Y/n!" Thor shouts and consumes me in a monster hug nearly knocking me over. "I can't... breathe" I say from within his bear hug. "Oh yes sorry Lady Y/n" I let out a laugh at this.

"You guys miss me?" I say smiling at everyone. Rhetorical question obviously!

"It's so good to see you Y/n" Pietro says as he walks up to me and hugs you. "It's good to see you too brother"

Wanda comes up beside me and holds my arm. "We've missed you little sister" she says. I look up at her with a huge smile across my face. "I've missed you too" Oh no I can feel the tears coming Y/n don't cry!

"Uh Mr Stark" I hear Peter say to Tony "I think she's crying... was the banner too much?"

I go over to Peter and wrap my arm around his shoulders. "Peter I love the banner it's just" I look around at everyone. "I finally have a family"

Steve comes up beside me and grabs my hand. "Everyone here is your family Y/n, you're safe here" I wipe my eyes away and start to make small talk with everyone.

After awhile, I see Bucky sitting in the corner alone. I grab a slice of cake and bring it over to him "Peace offering?" I say and sit down beside him.

"Oh hey Y/n, how you feeling?" He asks and he makes room for me.

"Great apart from the pain in my head, are you okay?" I ask him, trying not to sound too nosey.

"I'm okay... I just feel really bad about what happened to you, especially as it was my fault" Bucky says, looking down at the floor.

This guy has known me for all of two minutes and feels this bad for leaving me behind. I can't help but laugh. "What are you laughing at?" He asks me giving me a dirty look. "It's not funny"

"Sorry I'll be all serious" I say and put on a straight face. "Honestly don't worry about it, I'm totally okay" I say hopping up, a little bit too fast and I fall over myself.

Luckily, Steve was walking over to us and caught me in time. "Seriously Y/n?" He says with annoyance in his voice.

"I'm totally fine" I say but all of sudden I can hear my heartbeat picking up. I jump out of Steve's arms and I can feel my breath shortening. "S-Steve? Somethings not right" I can feel the walls closing in and the palms of my hands are getting sweaty.

Everyone is looking at me now. "Y/n?? What's wrong sit down" Steve grabs my arm but I slap his hand off me. "I-I need air, I can't breathe"
I push past everyone and stumble to the balcony door.

The cold air feels so good but it doesn't help. I fall against the window and put my head between my knees. I don't know what's wrong with me, my head is pounding and my heart feels like someone is squeezing it.

Suddenly I can feel someone's hand on my back. "Y/n try breathe" it's Tony. "Everyone stay inside" I hear him say to the rest and he slams the balcony door shut.

"I don't know what's wrong with me!" I say and burst into tears. Tony wraps his arms around me as I start uncontrollably crying.

"Y/n I think you're having a panic attack" Tony says. A panic attack? Why would I be having one of those?

After what feels like an hour I finally start to calm down and a wave of tiredness comes over me. Tony lifts me up and brings me upstairs to my room.

Eventually I'm lying down in bed and Tony is kneeling on the bed beside me. "Thank you Tony" I say. "That's never happened to me before..."

He smiles and puts his hand on my head. "You're welcome Y/n. Don't worry we're going to help you I promise" And with that I let the tiredness come over me.

Tony's POV

I close the door slowly being careful not to wake her. I haven't seen anyone have a panic attack that bad since... well since me.

I come downstairs to the others waiting in the kitchen. "Is she okay?" Nat says anxiously.

"She had a panic attack... I think something happened to her in Hydra it just doesn't seem like her" I say to the others. Everyone looks at each-other with pity in their faces.

"We'll get her all the help she needs" Steve says. I think he really likes Y/n they seem to have quite the connection. "Yes of course we will" I reply.

"Guys this isn't like Y/n at all, I don't think it's actually her" Bucky says. Wow I guess we're just letting anyone stay here these days. "What do you mean?" Pietro says.

"Something happened to her at Hydra. After she got brought in they did a-load of tests on her. I presumed they were just taking her blood or something... but maybe they did something else to her" Bucky says. Why would Hydra do tests on Y/n?
