Chapter 3

Adley

I was trapped inside my own mind. It felt like I was underwater and no matter how hard I swam I couldn't reach the top. But then I did. Before everything was dark and thick. Now everything was clear. Memories came flooding back as I opened my eyes. I was laying, strapped in a bed with white sheets. I had a long scar along my left arm, and I couldn't remember how I got it. Oh my gosh, I remember it now. Getting kidnapped at Katies house, being drugged. That was the last memory I had. How long had to been? Then I noticed to my left, Ardan lay there asleep, probably swimming through her own mind. But weirdly enough it was Ardan, but it wasn't. She looked... older. Across from me was in their own beds were Katie and Morgan. Same as Ardan they looked different. Then I heard footsteps and two men in white suits came walking towards her. "The time has come!" I heard one of them whispering. "What is this!" I demanded. One man came over and reached out his arm. "Stop!" I said reaching out my hands to protect myself. He froze in his tracks his arms still outreached but unmoving. A faint yellow glow faded from my hands. What. The. Heck. I looked at the second man horrified. "What did I just do?!" I said horrified myself. "It's all part of the experiment." he reassured. "I need answers" I asked shocked. "Am I hallucinating? Have I gone crazy?" "No and No". The man said, "We took you and conducted an experiment on your genetics manifesting the powers hidden from your superpowered genes." "WHAT?!!" I screamed. "How long has it been?" I asked quietly. "One year". He responded. I felt like fainting. "And our parents?" "Still looking for you". "Ok and why is this man frozen?". "You manifested as a Mesmer and once you learn to control your powers you can control peoples mind." "Uh, ok." I'm still really confused I thought. "can you please fix him?" The non-frozen man said. I reached out my hands and said, "Move back". The man stayed frozen but moved over by the other man's side. "Move". He came alive. "Where is the bathroom?" I asked. He pointed to the corner and I got out of bed. I stumbled a bit but got the hang of walking, after all it had been a year. When I got to the bathroom the first thing, I did was look in the mirror. I was skinny, too skinny. Dang, I looked older and pardon me I have to say it prettier. My eyes flitted to my chest, but I quickly looked away. Ok to much growing for today. I had on a long white robe and my hair was all messy. Then I heard a knock on the door. "I need to you to come wake your friends up." The scientist said. I walked out of the bathroom. "How?" He walked me over to Katies bedside. I put my hands on her head and whispered. "Wake up"

Katie

I was a princess in a tower, locked away waiting for my true love. Then he came, he was about to kiss me, unlock me from my trance and then he- "Wake up." A familiar voice said. Then my eyes opened without my consent, it was Adley! "HOLY SHIT ADLEY?!" I went to hug her my hands went invisible. "What the hell?" I said in a confusing tone but also a scared tone. "Ah, I see you power is invisibility, fascinating." This scientist guy said. "I wonder what lies beyond the surface." He spoke. "Ok, who the hell are you and where the hell is my mom?" I said, furious. I was scared but there was no way I was going to let them know. My dad always said "People see what you put on the surface, if they see your true emotion then you failed. Never show your weakness, never." So, I showed him who he's messing with. "Woah, calm down there cowgirl." He said a little annoyed, then he reached for my arm. "This isn't my first rodeo dipshit I know how to snap someone's neck." I said, yanking my arm out of his hands. I don't know why I was just so mad. I wasn't myself. I looked around and saw Morgan sleeplessly to my right and Adley's bed, I'm assuming, and Ardan's, who's also sleeping across from me. Where are we? I can't read that sign or that clock. What's my mom's name? Where's my dad? Omg my dad! What's my dad's name? Have I forgotten who my parents are!? I can't breathe! Am I going to die? OMG I CAN'T BREATHE!! "Katie! Snap out of it! You're safe." I jerk my head towards Adley, I was breathing heavily and fast? "Did I just die or something?" I asked very confused but trying to remain calm and I obviously failed. Adley chuckled "No dumbie, it's called a panic attack." No, no way, I, me, had a panic attack. Strange's do not have panic attacks. I brushed it off, but in a sassy way. "What year is it?" I asked slowly preparing for the worst to come. "It's 2020." He said slower than me. Holy, shit. I'm thirteen now, last time I was awake was 2019. Take a deep breath, no emotions, no fear. "Hm..." said the scientist amused. "I have to say I'm very impressed on how well you hide your fear, I would have never known. But the monitor says your heart rate is on fire." I scoffed and rolled my eye of coarse they are monitoring me. I completely ignored his teasing. "Adley can you wake up Morgan?" "Yea no problem." she said cheery. I don't know how she so ok with this.
