June, 2019

After graduation, my mother told me the exciting news that we were going to London in a couple of weeks. I couldn't believe it. She said we will be going on a tour group which originally, I did not appreciate because I would rather go on my own and explore the country. But I guess I will do that one day when I am with someone or when I have enough money to pay for a trip. My mother said we will be hitting London first. London. I am a sucker for British Literature. From the Bronte sisters to Shakespeare, I knew I was ready to embark on this exciting journey.

"We are leaving on the 28th, so make sure you have your bags packed." My mother said.

"Will do." I replied back.

Over the next two weeks, I decided to do some research before we left for our trip. I wanted to do as much research I could so I could understand the city or event on a deeper level. This was going to take a lot of ink and effort, but I knew this would be worth it.

Two weeks later

"Taylor hurry up, we are going to be late." My mother called.

"Coming!" I said, grabbing my bag and suitcase.

It was 8:30pm and our flight would be at 10pm. Normally, overseas flights are to be at night so then when you arrived, you'd be there in the morning. Needless to say, I was excited but also nervous. I had not been on a plane since I went to California several years ago. Personally, I am not a fan of airplanes. It's not being in the air part, it's just that I hate the shaking of turbulence when going in and out of the sky.

6 hours later

London. We arrived in the early daytime at Heathrow Airport and goodness was I tired. I only got four hours of sleep on the flight and it was not pleasant. Even though we were all exhausted from the flight, the tour group kept moving in the blistering heat. Mind you, England does not get heat waves. Rather, it gets rain and it would rain for weeks. Not this summer. This summer, it was over 90 some degrees Fahrenheit. I was living in shorts for days. That is, until I reached the Netherlands where I would be wearing jeans and a t-shirt. Either way, I was in quite a bit of trouble throughout the entire time I was exploring Western Europe because I could not understand a word the tour guide was saying.

"Mom, look at this article I found online." I nudged my mother who was sitting next to me on the way to Buckingham Palace.

"Taylor, listen to the tour guide." My mother replied back.

"I cannot understand a thing. I did my research for a reason because I knew I would be on a tour group with a bunch of foreigners." I snapped.

I don't mind being half Korean, but the thought of being on a tour group with a language I know little of bothers the heck out of me. I printed maybe over 10 articles just to understand each of the places we were exploring. One of the most beautiful places we went on this trip was, Venice. I am a sucker for Italian opera and the culture. In fact, I had a friend who taught me the basics of the language and I wanted to learn more. My dream is to stay in Italy for a couple of months. Yes, it does get hot during the summer times, but I love the architecture and learning about the Renaissance Era. We stayed in Europe for about two weeks and when we got back, I visited my brother who was living in California. I couldn't wait to see my niece and nephew. I hope they know how loved they are. Following the summer of 2019, I would enter college and meet a bunch of new people that have the same passions as me with teaching.
