Mya's POV

I couldn't sleep last night. I tossed and turned just thinking about seeing my parents. My anxiety over the situation has only gotten worse since the day I was told they would be coming. I don't know what I'm expecting to happen, but I'm scared regardless.

Outside of stressing over that, I've been occupying my free time with Leah. She's been dying to know if I'm actually using her gift and today I'm actually going to show her what I've been working on.

I walk out onto the back patio of the facility and look around for Leah. Because I was in such a weird mood this morning I told her I would come find her after my therapy session. I spot her sitting at a table drinking a cup of coffee alone.

"Here," I slide my sketchbook over to her and take a seat. Today her hair is up in a messy bun with a few strands flowing freely. She looks so sweet.

Her face lights up as she takes the book in her hands. "You actually drew something?"

"You said it was my homework," I shrug with a smile. "Open it."

She flips it to the first page letting her mouth fall open in shock. Her eyes flick up to me then back down to my drawing. "Mya this is amazing. I had no idea you could draw like this."

"I'm assuming you were expecting stick figures," I giggle which makes her laugh too.

"Truthfully, yes," she sits the open book down so we can look together. "What makes this the best day ever?"

"I drew the beach because every year my moms would take us to Hawaii in December. We were basically celebrating mama's birthday and Christmas at once. It was my favorite thing to do. One year when I was about ten Mila, my sister, met this boy and cried like a baby when we had to fly home because she thought he was the love of her life. I always thought she was such a drama queen and I made fun of her for years after that."

"Were you two close?"

"Yeah I guess you can say that. We weren't conjoined at the hip or anything because our personalities were so different. She was my best friend though," I look down. "I should have told her that more."

"I'm sure she knew how much you loved her. Don't ever doubt that," she grabs my hand and gives it a squeeze.

"Mya," a nurse calls from the patio door. "Your parents are here."

"Come see me before your shift ends," I say to Leah then grab my sketchbook and go inside.

My moms are already waiting in my room for me when I walk in. They both look tired, completely worn out, and that breaks my heart.

"Hey babygirl," mama says with a smile. She pulls me into a tight hug and kisses the top of my head.

"Hi," I say as I take in her familiar scent.

When she pulls away we both look over to mom who has tears in her eyes. She holds out her arms for me and as soon as I'm in them we both begin to cry.

"I'm so sorry mommy. I didn't mean for it to happen," I sob into her chest. "I swear I didn't."

"I know Mya I know. We don't blame you," she rubs my head.

This goes on for a while until we're all calm again. They pull the chairs over to my bed while I sit on the edge of it.

"How are you feeling? Are you getting enough rest?" mama asks.

"Yeah," I nod. "I'm doing fine. They got me a new nurse and she's so nice. It's helping a lot."

"Good," my mom smiles. " I can't wait to bring you home. We miss you."
