Mya's POV
These nightmares have only intensified making it hard to sleep through the night anymore. After the last three I decided I wouldn't tell anyone so they won't worry. The only person who knows is my therapist and she thinks my guilt is coming back because I'm home again.
It didn't surprise me when she said that because I haven't even been inside of Mila's old room let alone visited her grave. I guess in my mind she's just on her dream vacation in the Maldives with her friends and she'll be home later.
"What are you do- oh shit I'm sorry," Leah quickly says when she realizes she just startled me.
"It's fine," I sigh, relaxing again. "I couldn't sleep so I came out here.
She steps onto the balcony shutting the sliding door behind her. Her warmth radiates off of her when she stands next to me, making the slight breeze of New York City air not so bad.
"Do you want to talk about it?" she mumbles.
"Not really," I turn to her and smile. "Have you been enjoying the trip so far?"
We've been in the city for five days and it's been a good distraction. Unlike the last time I came, we've gotten to see a lot of cool places and eat some amazing food. I don't know if I'd ever live here, but visiting isn't so bad.
"Yeah it's been great. Micah is really cool too," she returns the smile. "Wait a minute. It's past midnight. Oh my god happy birthday!"
I giggle at her excitement and secretly wish I felt the same. "Thank you."
"Do you want your gift now or later?"
"Definitely later when I'm more awake to appreciate it," I conclude.
"Sounds good," she grabs my hand gently. "Should we go back to bed now?"
I shrug. "You go. I'm going to stay out here a little longer."
She nods and goes back inside the hotel room taking her warm and good energy with her. I'm instantly in a funk again as I try to occupy my mind with the mass amount of city lights in front of me. My phone vibrates on the little table next to one of the balcony chairs and I pick it up to see a FaceTime call from Blaze.
I look over my shoulder checking to see if Leah is watching me, but she's snuggled up facing the opposite direction. My thumb taps the answer icon and Blaze's face appears.
"I figured you would be up," she chuckles. "Happy birthday beautiful."
"Thank you, but I am so not beautiful right now," I laugh.
"You don't see you the way I do so just trust me on this," she smiles. "Where are you?"
I haven't talked to Blaze much so I never told her about my birthday plans. "I'm in New York visiting Micah," I say, leaving out the fact that Leah is with me.
"Cool. Are you having fun?"
"Yeah it's been nice. What have you been up to?" I change the subject.
"Well I recently got asked to do a song for the soundtrack of this new movie. I sent over the one I wrote about you and they loved it," she beams. "We've been working on changing up the melody and stuff."
"Blaze that's fucking cool! I can't wait to hear the new version. What's the movie about?"
"It's a romcom," she rolls her eyes. "Something cheesy and typical. The cast is all A-listers though so it should do well."
"I'm excited for you regardless," I tell her truthfully.
"Thanks. Um when you get back do you think we could hang out? I have a gift for you."
