Chapter 60 - Taking another step

Emmeline POV

"My father is alive" I mumbled out the words, sooner or later this was bound to come out, I was willingly to take the chances with him, I tightened my hold onto him.

He pulled back and raised my chin with his index finger, "What are you saying?"

"Emmett Steele is alive, my father is alive" I repeated each word slowly letting him grasp the situation, he looked at me with no emotions, I almost thought he didn't heard me with the water running in the background.

Kaeden must be explaining Eve what was happening just like Nick did to me, there was someone in this very household who was giving out information, someone who is right beside us, hawking our every move, one wrong move and you are at their mercy.

"Why hasn't he come out?"

Should I lie?

Should I let it out? I am choosing to trust him, there is no more hiding. I must take another step towards him

"He is hiding for a reason, he is one of the researchers and my sister Eli is playing a hand at that, that's all I know" I sighed

"So Aiden and Elizabeth is hiding him or he is hiding from them?"

"He is hiding so that one day when he comes out to the world, everyone would bow to him and be his puppets" I said, Nick was confused, "You know that I can mess with technology so they want to use me for something"

"Like?"

"Haven't figured it out but it has something to do with the safe aunt Nylah told us" Nick took out his phone, actually his burner phone, he looked at it and looked at me, "Eve knows and now we need to get out of this house"

"How?"

"Just play along" he smirked, I grabbed his arm and stopped him in his tracks, he looked at me questionedly.

"Who do you think it is?"

He knew what I was asking, he was silent before he spoke out the name, "Damon and Blaze" he was torn between trusting his men, the people who were together since he lost his family, he was just in the path of trusting others and now it was all crashing down.

We walked back to the living room, Kae and Eve were seated on the couch

"What took you two so long?" Kae raised his eyebrows

"What usually happens when you go into a room?" Nick questioned him back, "so what do you say shall we go to the amusement park?"

He was starting the game, whoever was listening knew where we were going.

"I am up for it"

"Me too" I nod

"How can I say no when the three of you are okay?" Kae winked

"What are waiting for let's go" I smiled excitedly but I was anything but that. Nick saw my face and pulled me closer.

"Three hours" he whispered, three hours of pretense.

"We'll meet you there" Kae spoke, we nodded back at them.

Levine stood outside near Nick's car, I trusted Levine but the question was did he? Along with Levine stood four other guards ready to tag along with us, I looked questionedly at Nick, we didn't know who to trust.

"Levine" Nick said in his monotonous tone, "get the car ready, the rest of you stay back" some looked at him questioned while some had looks of realization.

"Yes Boss" they bowed their heads and went to their posts. Levine opened the back door of the SUV and waited until the two of us got in, a guard knocked on the window bowing his head down.

"Sir, since the SUV was brought today morning we weren't able to check the condition of it, would it be okay if we were to check it out?" he spoke confidently something you rarely see in lower rankers, he wasn't one of us, he was a spy, the symbol that peaked out from his shoulder gave him out.

"Levine is with us and we are going to the neighboring town, check the condition of the vehicle after we come back since Kaeden and Evelana has already left the premises without any guards" I cut Nick off, he hadn't seen the tattoo yet.

The guard fixed his gaze on us, his façade crumbling a bit as his eyes flashed annoyance and anger, putting back his mask on he said, "would you need more guards to come along Ms. Steele, it would be safe to travel with more guards other than Levine"

Levine looked at me, he was choosing to keep quiet, he wanted me to trust him, "I think we should get going, we don't have all day" I fake  smiled at the guard as Levine boarded into the driver's seat, closing our door, "Oh and what's your name?" I questioned faking interest, Nick squeezed my hand.

Asking him a question like that wasn't going to give me an advantage, but if my guess is correct this man would give out exactly what I need.

"Fabio Trux"

"Very well Fabio, keep the house safe" I bit back the words I wanted to say, "let's go" I closed the window.

"Fabio Trux is dead" was Nick's words after we passed the gates.

"No one but you, Ethan, Kae and Eve knew about that, we can rule out Ethy, the rest I don't know and now we have a fifth one in our group" I eyed Levine "This SUV isn't wiretapped so let me ask you Levine why choose us?"

Nick eyed him too, Nick and Levine had entered the dangerous game along with Kaeden and Ethan, this game deals with your lives.

"As I said from the beginning Ms. Emmeline my loyalty lies with Mr. Nicholas and you" he said looking at us from the view mirror.

"There is no going back Levine" I wanted him to see all the possibilities, "once you choose a side, you become a member and a part of the game that has being playing for a long time"

"I know the risks Ms. Emmeline but that doesn't change my decision, I owe my life to you and Mr. Nicholas, you saved me when I was lost and alone, it's time I return the favour back even if my life is at risk" he was sincere and there was no changing his mind.

"Well then Levin Tobermory welcome to the reign of the Black Phoenix"
