Motivation

Hi, I'm Ashima! AutumnDahlia5
I'm here to talk to you guys about staying motivated and its importance in life.

What is motivation?

Motivation is the reason why you are doing something or the level of desire you have to do something. It can be found in simple tasks you do in your everyday life, like getting a glass of water when thirsty. In this scenario, your motive, or reason for doing something, is to quench your thirst. Even if it's small, this is a motive. In everyday usage, the term "motivation" is frequently used to describe why a person does something. It is the driving force behind human actions.

There are two different types of motivation: extrinsic and intrinsic. Extrinsic motives are those that come from outside an individual, like money, praise, a trophy, or a medal. Intrinsic motives are those that come from within an individual, like doing a sport because you enjoy it, or solving a puzzle for the pleasure of solving a problem.

Why is staying motivated important?

Motivation pushes you towards your goals and dreams in your life. If your desire is to write a book, motivation would help you to start it and to continue working on it throughout time. That motivation would help you set aside time in your week to commit to writing that book.

Additionally, motivation teaches you to persevere and stay resilient. Every road to success will have a setback. Most of the time, there will be multiple. Those setbacks will have you doubt whether your goal is worth the effort, but motivation will step in and give you the strength and courage to try again. Motivation helps you strive through setbacks, trials, and fears. As an example, take Walt Disney. His characters, like Mickey Mouse and Goofy, are a huge part of thousands of childhoods around the world! But everything wasn't as successful as he'd like it to be at first. Disney was fired from one of his first animation jobs at the Kansas City Star newspaper because his editor felt he "lacked imagination and had no good ideas". Now, if he had listened to him, he wouldn't be the big name in the world that he is today. But he didn't. Instead, he didn't listen, and pursued his dreams and his goals, eventually becoming one of the most famous cartoonists in the world! He persevered! Why? Because he had the motivation to keep going despite what that editor said to him. He didn't give up and kept going.

Finally, not only does motivation help you, it helps others as well! Seeing others be motivated inspires people to find their own motive to continue, even during hard times. It inspires others to make things happen in their own lives and to persevere just like you are.

How can I become motivated?

First, set a specific goal you can achieve. After setting your goal, think about how you can achieve that goal and how you can incorporate it into your life. What do you need to make it happen? How will you achieve it? How long will it take? Also, why will you be doing this? (This is an important one!) Consider all of these as you brainstorm.

Now, you don't have to do the goal all at once! In fact, it's almost impossible to do that! It takes time to achieve something, so don't be upset if you're having trouble. Break down your goal into several smaller goals and try to first achieve those goals. Be sure to set yourself regular reminders so you don't forget. It's like writing a book. Authors don't just finish a whole 50 chapter novel in 2 days! It takes time. They spend days, months, years, even decades working on it, perfecting it, and making it exactly how they want it. So don't be bummed out if you can't finish it as quickly as you'd like. Just take more time to do it and continue working hard.

Another thing: don't be sad if you need help. It's difficult to achieve something on your own. It's okay to ask for help if you need it! Talk to your family and friends about your goals. It's nice to have the support of these people close to you when doing something, and can help a lot!

How can I stay motivated?

First of all, when you choose your goal, be sure to choose something that interests you. If you choose something you don't actually want to do, chances are you won't have the motivation to complete that goal. Plus, even if you do achieve it, it won't make a desirable difference in your life. Try to make a goal for something that you enjoy, something that actually interests you, instead of something that you don't care for very much. Try to make the task fun, instead of boring.

Next, if you're encountering a problem in your pathway to your goal, try to think of it from a different perspective. Approach it in different ways. A different approach will give you a new perspective and more energy.

Another thing: as mentioned before, break down your task into little pieces, instead of tackling it as one big thing. If you take it on as a whole, it will be very difficult to achieve, and you might become unmotivated to do it because you might think you can't achieve your dream. To avoid this, try to instead break down your big dream into manageable tasks to make it easier to attain. Then complete those tasks one at a time, taking the time you need to reach your desired outcome.

Now, a problem we all face is procrastination. Try to eliminate procrastinating. Don't set things off for later unless something huge comes up that you can't miss. Instead, try to start and work hard. Often times beginning something is the hardest part.

Last but not least, be sure to reward yourself for your hard work! It's difficult to reach your dreams, but it doesn't mean it's impossible! You will always face challenges, but just know that you can do this! After overcoming a big obstacle, try to reward yourself for your hard work and resilience, because you definitely deserve it! Give yourself a pat on the back and be proud of yourself! Great job!

What do I do if I become unmotivated?

First, try to find the reason why you're unmotivated. This'll help so that you can avoid this problem in the future. Are you procrastinating? Is there something you're upset about that is causing you to feel lousy? What's happening?

Next, know that it's okay to feel a bit unmotivated every once in a while and that it happens to everyone. Don't beat yourself up for it. You can get out of this and become motivated once again.

Procrastination is a big cause of lack of motivation. Try to beat procrastination. Instead of putting things off for later, try to begin them when you have the time and continue them when you have the time as well. Work hard to achieve these goals of yours, and to work on them when you have the time to do it, instead of putting it off for later.

Another reason for a lack of motivation is feeling overwhelmed. Sometimes when you have a lot to do and feel overwhelmed, it feels better for you to do nothing. Doing nothing is a cause of having no motivation, but so is doing too much. When you feel like there's so much to do that you can't possibly get to it all, you might not want to even get started. When this happens, break down your goal into little tasks that you can fit into your life, but are small enough so you won't feel very overwhelmed. As you accomplish each small task, you're moving in the direction of completing your big task.

Another cause of having no motivation is when you try to please everyone. When you're busy trying to keep everyone else happy, you can't identify your own wants and needs. When you have no idea what you want, there's no reason to be motivated. It's important to stop trying to please everyone. If you try to please other people all the time, you're going to let yourself down constantly. That's not a way to live. Learn who you are and what you want to do. Be sure to set and accomplish your own goals and dreams in life instead of others. This will be difficult, but you can do this! Have faith in yourself and work your hardest to get out of the habit of pleasing others by ignoring yourself.

If you are dealing with a lack of motivation, don't give up. You can do this! These aren't the only reasons, but whatever the reason, you can get out of this rut. Feel free to reach out and ask for help from those around you, instead of keeping it all to yourself.

Final Thoughts

Staying motivated is important in your everyday life and in achieving your goals. To become motivated, set your goals and brainstorm how and why you will be doing them. To stay motivated, choose something that interests you and break it down into smaller tasks to make it easier to accomplish. If you become unmotivated, think about why you're unmotivated and ask for help from others around you! You can do this! Just work hard and do your best.

Thank you so much for reading! I hope you all enjoyed it, and I hope it helped! If you ever need more help, feel free to reach out.
