You might wanna read the last chapter for a recap.

"Why hello, Miss Foster," Mr.Forkle breathed out in his nasally voice. "I was just looking for you."
"U-um... Same for me?" Even though he didn't look like much, the way Mr.Forkle held himself screamed power.
The way Sophie held herself probably just screamed small teenage girl with a bunch of insecurities.
Forkle's eyes narrowed in an intimidating fashion at her pitiful stuttering. "I was wondering why you couldn't attend our important meeting yesterday. I remember specifically addressing everyone at training the day before that it is necessary that they are present."
She must've missed the memo. "Well... Um, you see Sir—I mean—sorry, I couldn't make it. My adoptive mother had a heart attack..." Her voice trailed off. He probably knew everything about her life, including Edaline's medical records.
She wanted to slap herself, hard. This always happened when she went into panic mode.
Mr.Forkle genuinely looked saddened, though. Maybe her excuse would work—"I'll check her medical records tonight to see if there's anything I can do to help. I know how expensive hospital visits are, so if your family needs it, I can pay," He said. It sounded genuine.
If only he could feel the surges of hate flowing through Sophie's veins. Every bone in her body wanted to rip him apart. Not because of his niceness—no—because she was good at reading people. She may be oblivious to certain things, but she knew this mask of kindness was all an act. He just wanted an excuse to test her loyalty. Of course he didn't trust her. The girl he practically raised.
She put on a fake smile, though. She was used to a mask of false kindness. She was used to using people for her advantage, playing with their minds. "I'm sure Edaline will recover just fine—and you and your twin..."
He started at her, dumbfounded. As soon as his mouth was able to function again, Mr.Forkle started with the questions. Not before he opened a door that blended perfectly with the wall, though. It had been invisible to Sophie's eyes until now. He dragged her inside, and the wall-like entryway clanked behind them.
For a minute, he just pondered his next choice of words. Then, he spoke. "How did you know I have a twin?"
It was a simple question, really, but Sophie still stumbled over her words. "I—um... well... you see... Me and Dex—no—Dex and I were each on separate missions during Summer. And you see... we each had a Forkle." Sophie cleared her throat. "I mean Mr.Forkle. At first we thought you had an evil doppelgänger that was trying to take over the universe, but then we realized how weird that would be. And the doppelgänger would have to know exactly how you acted 24/7, which would be extremely difficult. So the idea was ruled out. Then after a few more wild guesses, a genius idea popped into Dex's head. He said that you must've had an identical twin. That was the only reasonable explanation, so we stuck with it." She felt exasperated after telling such a long story.
Mr.Forkle just stood there for another moment to take in the entirety of the story. Under his breath, he whispered, "I wonder if anyone else has figured it out," just loud enough for Sophie to hear.
And of course she had to blurt out, "Probably. It was really easy once me and Dex brainstormed a few ideas."
"Now enough about your secret twin! What was so important that every member of the organization had to be present yesterday?" Sophie questioned to get them back on topic, already done with the last subject.
"Oh—right! We got some extremely useful intel from a mole that's been giving us information on Neverseen plans and whatnot. The Neverseen are very intelligent, and they usually only give information about their whereabouts to members that have been committed for years, but our mole was able to become trusted enough to get the location of one of their lairs." Mr. Forkle looked like he was about to scream "you kids" in excitement.
Sophie took all of this information in. "So, what are we planning on doing about it?" She asked.
An actual smile broke out across his face. "We're going to raid their hideout and slaughter all of the criminals hiding there!" Now his smile was more on the creepy side than the happy side.
She didn't feel like cheering, but it wasn't the worst thing he could've wanted the Black Swan to do. They could've all been assigned to assassinate someone with kids and a life and—Wait... the Neverseen members at that hideout could have a life. Just like how that woman that Dex was assigned to kill has a life. All of the people that Sophie had killed in the past had probably had a life. Heck, they could've been forced into the organization just like a lot of Black Swan members were.
Sophie's stomach felt sick as she thought of families. Of friends. Of siblings. All being torn apart by her. All having to grieve. All having to suffer the pain of loss just like she had.
Then it finally clicked. The Neverseen wasn't out to kill her, so why should she be out go kill them? They were just out causing havoc.
The chaos that followed them was probably part of a big scheme that involved the nearby Bureau of Engraving and Printing. If they could take over the money-printing business, they could lead the nation into chaos. The same type of chaos that they were causing right now.
But, it was also the same type of chaos Sophie was causing.
Something wet dripped down her face. Forkle sent her a confused look, and she turned around to wipe off the now-pouring tears.
She had to get out of there. The walls of the small office were closing in.
Sophie banged on the door while hysterical sobs escaped her lips.
She kicked and screamed and clawed until the door finally creaked open. Sophie knew it was Mr. Forkle's doing, though.
Her feet pounded on the cement between her and the dirt that lay below.
They say that you shouldn't run from your problems, but that's exactly what Sophie did.

So ummm.... this book is about to get gAy. I'm a multi-shipper here, so also be prepared for that mess. That ^ was the most random side note ever 🤣🤣.
Well, I'm back and I finally published a chapter! This one actually took me two days to write because after not writing for so long I was having some serious writers block.
Also, I think I'm gonna change my writing schedule. I'm thinking of adding one more day in between publishing chapters. So, I'll try and write a new chapter every 2 days (or is that 3...), not every other day. I might publish more frequently than that, though. Especially this week because I'm really excited for what's to come in this story!!!
We had some major plot development and some stuff (*cough* where Sophie lives *cough*) revealed. The plot is going to start progressing much faster from now on since I've kinda introduced Sophie's way of life and her relationships with the other characters.
I'm planning on spilling some tea next chapter 😉
