Sophie had to carry out her idea or else Keefe might never get over his loss.

She reminded herself that this was the only way to help Keefe before she finally spoke. "Do you um... want to find your mother?" Sophie asked.

Keefe gave her an extremely confused look. "How would you know where mommy dearest is?" Sophie softly chuckled at the nickname he gave his mother.

"I don't know where she is right now, but I can find her. Don't doubt my tracking skills."

Keefe pondered what she said for a second then asked, "What will we do with her once we find her, though? Being a part of a gang is illegal, so it's not like I can just bring her back to my house, and I don't think I even want her back after she left me."

Sophie tried to hide her grimace when Keefe mentioned that being a part of a gang was illegal. "We bring her to someone I know. Or, more like an organization that I know. We need to investigate this gang, so the organization can help with that. We will find your mom, and we will make her pay for what she did to you." Sophie's look was full of determination.

Surprisingly, Keefe hugged her. But, since they were still on the same stool, Sophie fell off of the seat from the force of the hug. Keefe then lost his balance and toppled off after her. It would've been hilarious if everybody hadn't turned to see what all the racket was about. Not to mention that they were in a very compromising position. And then, after Sophie thought the embarrassment was over, Dex decided barge through the door to the Black Swan hideout.

Dex gave them the most terrifying glare he could muster and Sophie and Keefe burst into laughter, not before Keefe rolled off of Sophie. Everyone at the bar shrugged and turned back to their drinks, causing them to laugh even harder.

Dex's face morphed from anger to confusion. He asked, "Who the heck is this guy?" Dex turned toward Keefe. "If you dare mess with Sophie, I will murder you. I'm not joking."

Keefe looked Dex up and down and raised an eyebrow. "How exactly are you going to murder me? You're—what?—5 inches shorter than me and way punier."

Sophie elbowed Keefe in the ribs and whisper hissed, "Don't get Dex on your bad side. He will murder you if you mess with me. And I will murder you if you mess with him." Keefe raised an eyebrow, but said nothing. Sophie raised her voice back to its normal volume. "Now, this is Dex." Sophie explained as she pointed to Dex. "He's my best friend. And Dex," Sophie pointed to Keefe. "This is Keefe."

"Why didn't you tell me about Keefe yesterday? I thought you told me everything." Hurt flashed across Dex's face.

Sophie rolled her eyes. "Do I really need to tell you everything about my life? And anyway, it's not like you asked me if I met anyone new. I can't read your mind."

Both their heads snapped to Keefe where they heard the crunch of a chip. He was eating Doritos while intently watching their argument.

     "Seriously?"

Sophie wasn't sure who had said it, but it needed to be said.

"Yup, seriously! Now go on, I was enjoying the show." Sophie had to laugh at Keefe's ridiculous answer, and for some reason Dex shot her a glare after her small laugh. It was probably because Keefe was now smirking like the idiot he was.

They turned back to their conversation, again forgetting that Keefe existed.

"Why were you with Keefe instead of at training?" Dex asked.

Sophie pushed her lips into a line. "Because he was having a bad day. Can't you at least have a little bit of empathy?!" Sophie was starting to get aggravated at Dex. He just couldn't listen, could he?

Dex redirected his gaze to the floor. "I'm sorry, it was just super awkward for me at training. You know I have bad social anxiety."

"Look, I'm sorry, too. I have such a bad temper." Sophie looked Dex in the eyes to show how sincere she was.

She had a great best friend bonding moment with Dex until they heard clapping coming from next to them. Again, their heads snapped towards Keefe.

Keefe gave them both an innocent look as he faked wiping his eyes. "What are you looking at me for? That was just such a heartwarming scene that my allergies decided to act-up." Sophie gave Keefe a major eye roll.
