"We stay," Inerra decided. Everyone started to protest, but I remained quietly huddled against Acera. "If we bring them to us, we'll have a better chance at eliminating them."
"If they all come for us at the same time, we won't stand a chance of surviving let alone killing any of them!" Patria shouted. She marched up to her cousin and stabbed him in the chest with her finger as a few others cheered her on. "I am not dying for you."
He glared, taking her shoulders and pushing her back. "No one is dying, do you understand? I can protect this house. I have the ability to keep the rogues at a far enough distance that they won't sense us, but if they, on the off chance, do, we'll be prepared. This entire building must be filled with stakes and weapons, do you hear me? Every room. Now go and get some firewood."
No one argued. It was like his words had this force; hypnotic; undeniable. Everyone vanished in search for the trees.
Acera pulled me from his lap and placed me on my feet. I watched him worriedly.
"Where are you going?" I breathed, reaching for him.
I followed him into the hallway where he took a jumper from the banister and shrugged it on. "Inerra's right. We need to have a rich supply of weapons to fight off this army."
I didn't agree in the slightest. We should be running.
"Can't I come with you?" I asked desperately.
He paused and then took my face in his hands. "You are safer here. If there are more rogues out there, I may lose you. Neither of us will survive if that happens."
I closed my eyes and leant into him, twining my arms around his neck. He took my waist, kissing my hair.
"Alright," I agreed.
He smiled, stroking up my back. "Thank you."
I soon found myself in the living room with Inerra on the opposite sofa scribbling across a map. I watched him like a hawk, trying to keep up with his fluent moving hand. He'd changed into a white t-shirt that was slightly see through and some dark pyjama bottoms. I felt myself being drawn towards his attractiveness, but I was able to keep it at bay as I studied him hungrily.
"You have to blink at least once or your eyes will dry out," he said all of a sudden.
I reddened, turning away from him. "I wasn't staring."
"So that's what you were doing," he sighed. "I'm used to you gawping at my beautiful face and extremely hot body. But you must remember to blink or you'll hurt those innocent eyes of yours."
Innocent?
"I wasn't staring," I grounded out, glaring at him.
He looked up through his lashes and smiled knowingly. "Right."
Silence fell over us again for a minute in which I glowered at the ceiling. Gawping. Right. I did not gawp.
There was an almighty crashing sound. The glare retracted just as Inerra scooped me up and slung me onto his back. I clung to him like a monkey, staring at the entrance with wide-eyes.
We waited and his muscles tightened. I became very aware of how close our bodies were and started to get distracted from the matter at hand. We could be under attack, damn it!
The front door opened, allowing Yvette and Xandar entrance while three bodies tumbled down the stairs. Yvette screamed, Xandar leapt onto one of them. Inerra just stood watching.
"Is that...Ellos? And...?" I began to gasp.
The brown haired one with grey eyes whipped round with his fangs on show. I was terrified and appalled. That vampire was supposed to be my best friend.
"They've finished transitioning. And are probably starving," Inerra muttered half to himself.
Yvette took down Alastria while Matt sauntered towards us.
"Matt?" I called. "It's me. It's Charlie. Do you know who I am?" I called desperately.
Matt's deep grey eyes instantly softened. "Ch...Charlie? My Charlie? Ah..." He started to curse, clutching his stomach and jaw.
"He's incredibly starving," Inerra mused.
"Well get him something to eat then!" I screamed into his ear.
He froze, snapping his head to narrow his eyes on my face. "He likes warm things. Juicy warm things. Oh look, you fit that description perfectly."
His hands pulled me round so that our lower halves were pressing. His eyelids fluttered but he gritted his teeth to focus on his feigned rage.
"Oh Matty! Come get your snack," he taunted.
"No...keep her back...I don't want to..."
"Inerra!" I screamed.
The blue-eyed pureblood stole me out the way just as Matt leapt for me. "Go to the fridge you animal," he spat.
I panted into Inerra's neck, too afraid to look at Matt. He was going to kill me. The sound of footsteps slowly retreating was like music to my ears. We were, again, alone.
"Are you ok?" Inerra whispered into my ear.
I resisted a shudder. "I hate you."
He started to laugh and I hated him even more as my legs were tightly wrapped around his waist.
"No you don't," he corrected softly. "You need to sleep anyway, human."
"I'm not tired," I lied fiercely, hiding my heavy eyes.
"You fibber," he hissed.
The room disappeared, soon replaced with a dimly lit one. It was mine and Acera's, but Inerra walked right in and closed the curtains, keeping me to him with one strong arm.
"Put me down! I'm not going to bed! Yvette and Xandar need our help with..." I tried to fight.
His lips crashed down on mine, body pushing me to the mattress. A moan escaped my mouth before I could help it. Lust ignited in my gut, spiraling out of control almost instantly. His tongue parted my lips, hands at my hair and arms and waist and thighs. I arched my back, allowing his arms to slip under me and hold me to him.
No, this was so wrong. Why did it feel so right? All of a sudden I grew frustrated with myself, with everything. If I was mated to Acera, why the fuck did I feel like this with Inerra? It was getting to the point where it was ridiculous.
He tore himself away from me, retreating to the wall. I just lay there, body humming from his aggressive touch.
"I'm sorry," he panted. "I don't know what possessed me."
I just breathed, chest heaving, trying to collect my thoughts.
"Don't tell Acera," he begged.
"We can't, it was nothing, anyway..." I lied.
He watched me with hooded eyes and the oozing desire for him hit me again, this time an even stronger wave. What did I do? What the fuck did I do? The feeling was overpowering me, growing too strong. Oh god...
He smiled slightly. "I never was good at friendships."
He appeared on top of me again, pushing my hands above my head, eyes burning bright with longing. He took my lower lip between his teeth, growling deep within his chest. I gasped, eyes squeezing shut, feeling nothing but blind lust.
